Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Malty toffee nose. Crystal clear tea color, medium yellow head, good lace. Flavor is tame with little character. Malty berries, with hints of toffee. Too dry and too little flavor. I would not seek this out again.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear golden color with an off-white head. Aroma was sweet malts, touch of yest, hops. Flavor was sweetness followed by bitter hops. Grassy notes, decent.

Bottle. Cloudy light amber with a coat of off-white head. Aroma of lemon, pears, a little bread.Thinnish body. Fruity taste without much sweetness, a fair bit of citrus, a little biscuity malt. Mildly bitter finish. Carbonation is not huge but enough to make it a little lively.

On tap at The Drill In in Burntwood, pours hazy golden copper. Aroma is almost non-existent. Flavour is a generic balance of malt and hops, with the hop bitterness lingering and sort of a fungus quality. Not too good.

On tap at The Wellington at Birmingham, pours light brown. Aroma of spices, caramel malt and bitter English malts. Flavour of bitter / sour fruits, spices and stale caramel malts. Unpleasant.

Roasted, nutty malt aroma. A little oak comes through too. Flavour is quite bitter from the roasted malt. Hop freshness comes through at the end.

0.5l bottle @ Finnegans, Bergen. Pours a golden stray-like body with a quickly fading white head. Aroma is malts, cardboard and not much more. Light bodied and medium + carbonated. Tastes not much, but some caramel malts, light hops and a thin watery feeling. Had some expectations to this the first time I ordered it simply because of the name, but as we all know, sometimes the cake is a lie.. Nice bottle though!

bottle@home: just like the bottle says, crisp, dry and bittersweet (but mostly bitter), very drinkable, nice, might make a nice session beer, not special but solid

Hey, this will be this beer’s 1000 rating. Eh, bottle. Not so good. Bitter. Not refreshing in the least, certainly not up to the standard of Monty Python’s name.

Bottled from Bierzwerg. Golden color with small white head. Aroma, cooked vegetable. Taste, malt, again cooked vegetable. Bitter finish with strange salty aftertaste. Disaster.
