0.33 l bottle from 'OnderNulPuntVijf', best before June 2022. Hazy, pale yellow, no head. Sweetish, rather fruity aroma of mango and some grains. Slightly sweet, minimally sourish, rather fruity taste of mango, grains and traces of citrus, followed by a short, minimally tart, slightly grainy finish. Thin body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Alright!

0.33 l bottle from 'OnderNulPuntVijf' simply as 'Oersoep Dodgeball', best before February 2022. Clear, golden amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, gently fruity-floral aroma of melon, mango and some orange. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, rather fruity-floral taste of mango, orange, melon and traces of wort, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little resiny finish. Thin to medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Decent NAIPA.

Oersoep's take on the Flemish oud bruin (or, more meaningfully put according to many authors, Vlaams rood), 75 cl bottle shared with Goedele and Steve. Eggshell-white, thin, open head, quickly reduced to a waferthin creamy ring over a misty ruddy-bronze beer with warm orangey-amber hue. Aroma of maracujá, raspberry vinegar, cooked plum, rosé wine, purple gooseberries, caramel, brown bread, tart grape juice, wood glue, redcurrant, orange peel, vanilla-ish oak wood touch. Estery fruity onset, passionfruit, medlar, plum and sharp redcurrant effects, even slightly (red wine-) vinegary at the edges with the emphasis remaining on fruitiness rather than puckering acidity; softish carb, supple, lean body. A slick hard-caramelly malt core shows a slightly softer brown-bready edge, all dried by that fruity sourness and - later on - by tannic woodiness, clearly evoking a 'wet oak wood' aspect at about the same time a vague, underlying echo of dimly herbal hops shows up. The tart, lively, crisp fruitiness remains the dominant factor, though, turning even a bit citric in the end, with lingering notes of unripe mandarin, grape skin and green plum. Complex Flemish red for sure; one of the better Dutch interpretations of this ancient style so far for me, even, because it marries credibility and respect for the traditions with a more tart, daring and challenging, almost American style sourness. More than decent.

75cl Fles, thanks Harmen!

Unclear medium amber colour, good frothy off-white head, good lacing. Malt aroma, orange, yeast, floral. Taste medium sweet and bitter, light fruity (orange, grapefruit). Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, dry medium bitter aftertaste, light fruity and spicy notes, bit dusty, overall quite okay.
