Sampler from bottle. Big and rich malt flavor with light chocolate notes to it. A nice change to an authentic doppel after sampling a Leinie’s Big Butt. This one has a deep brown color, and finishes very hearty. This is the kind of beer that’s conjured to mind when reading about the brews those monks drank to get through Lenten fasting.

Das Bier startet malzig und leicht herb, wird aber immer süßer, bis es im Nachgeschmack fast schon unanganehm süß ist. Röstmalzige Aromen findet man höchstens im Nachgeschmack. Wässriges Durchschnittsdunkel ohne Profil. Test vom 11.2.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,7,8,7,13,8

Bottle: Hazy, orangey coloured, medium-sized, quite stable and firm off-white head; fruity nose: mainly bananas, traces of citrus and a tinge of strawberries - and, what a luck - nearly no dammned dental cloves; slightly sweetish fruity flavour with a tinge of caramel, creamy mouthfeel; fruity finish, only a little bit tart/yeasty in the end. Pleasant, refreshing, decent.........................

(bottle at Klosterhof, Niederalteich) Pale golden colour with a foamy white medium head. Floral and herbal hoppy aroma with notes of citrus and wet straw.Light bitter flavour, medium to light bodied, moderate carbonation. Quite balanced Pilsener. Dry herbal hopbitter finish. Aromatic and good.

500 ml bottle, bought in Bier Spezi, Hamburg. Very pale golden colour, large head. Moderate aroma of grass, fruits and pale malts. Flavour is surprisingly bland, some grassy and sweetish notes. Low bitterness. ABV is well hidden. Drinkable, but I expected more than this. Confirms my theory that the Octoberfest is a ridiculously over-hyped event for American and German binge drinkers, and has very little, if anything, to do with a great beer selection or beers out of the ordinary.
