375ml bottle, poured into a duvel tulip. Hazy orange pour, with a medium white head. The aroma is impressive. Grapefruit, lemon, grapefruit zest, apricot, orange, honey, wet hay. Swirling the beer brings up some yeast, and strong pungent citrus zest, and loads and loads of funk. The mouth feel is spot on, and the carb is perfect. The finish is quite sour, loads of apricot, and more zingy zest. Big lambic funk notes, horse blanket, and wet hay. This is by far the best sour ale outside of belgium ive ever had this was an absolute joy, and i have no choice, i have to give this a 5. A masterpiece.

A citrucy hop bomb!!!!! Its all citrus all the way. Very little malt, no pine notes to speak of. The bitterness it wild, and gripping. Leave an unbelievable citrus aftertaste. Incredible stuff! Man i wish i could get it all the time. Vive russian river!!

My first pliny!
Unbelievable aroma of juicy citrus, grapefruit mostly. Some floral honey notes, and a touch of sweetness from the malts. The flavor is one hell of a hop kick! The finish is quite resinous and loaded with pine, and a touch of soapy spruce. The finish is intensely bitter, and ends with and incredible citrus taste. Long live pliny!!

Batch 002, courtesy of Irishboy, thank you!!!
pours an amber/orange color. nice finger of head. Aroma is very much like a lambic. Sour and funk, and barnyard with a tinge of cherry, and some flemish sour all combined in one. Flavour is sour, and tastes just like a good lambic, but its smooth, and the finish is big on the cherry. The finish is also very fresh, and the cherry lasts a long time. Wow, what an amazing beer!

corked and caged 750ml from Irishboy, thank you!
Wow, the aroma is amazing. Ripe fruits such as plums, figs, apples, cherries, lots of malt, and loads of sweet caramel. Carbonation is very nice, and the flavour is out of the world! So much nice caramel/malty sweetness, laced with wondrful fruitiness. Wow. best belgian strong i have ever had, hands down.

Patience can be a virtue. Sometimes. I have waited a long time for the opportunity to sample Pliny the Elder. Last week I thought I would get the chance to try three variations of the brew at Aces and Ales in Las Vegas by information out of their website. I arrived there and found two of the kegs had been depleted. And so, it happens. The pour of Pliny came to the table yellow-gold in color with a surprisingly slender skim of solidly white foam. I could smell grapefruit, hops and grain. The taste was grapefruit again, lemons, grass, a small sweetness and a touch of dankness. It was a fine beer but I expected something big. A cutting edge beer in the day I'm sure, not so much in this tasting. Glad to get the opportunity, in any case, to get a taste.

Hoppy and fruity, piney, some citrus. Dry grass, soft bitterness, smooth. Is good, but still prefer the robustness of the og.

On tap at Belmont Station Bier Cafe, pours a clear deep dark purple with a small pink head. Aroma has a nice red wine grape skin character, plenty of bugs, and some jammy red fruits. Flavour is buggy and vinous, with lots of complex bugs, red grape skins, grape must, and oak. Real great use of the grapes. Excellent.
