Description
Crooked Stave Brewing Company is an artisan microbrewery in Denver, Colorado. It was founded by beer lover and beer brewer Chad Yakobson. The establishment of Crooked Stave was the result of Chad’s years of travel and studies about beer brewing abroad. His study of Master of Science in Brewing and Distilling at a university in Scotland gave him the expertise to set up his own brewery. Crooked Stave brewery is known for their brewing specialty in Brettanomyces fermentations and barrel-aged sour and wild ales. Crooked Stave Brewing Company is home to some of the finest sour beers. Some of its remarkable beers are the Crooked Stave Surette, Crooked Stave Vieille and Crooked Stave St. Bretta.

375 ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a small brown head that soon dissipates. The aroma is quite strong with whiskey, oak barrel and vanilla. The taste mirrors the aroma, lots of whiskey, vanilla and caramel. The palate is full and oily. Finishes long and semi-sweet with lingering caramel. Overall: decent--big beer.

Bottle pour at the DCBeer December 2025 share. Poured a mostly clear ruby color with a very small white head, very small, wispy. Aroma was lots of acidic cherry skins, big acid. Vinous, big sour cherries.

Can.
A- Yellow color, clear liquid, white head.
A- Weak, grains, lime.
F- Lime, cucumber, tangy, grains.
T- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly tangy finish.
O- Not great. For Crooked Stave I expected more. This was light in aroma and flavor. Just some plain lime juice and cucumber skin flavors. Actually got better as it warmed. Meh.

Flaska från SB drucken med ölföreningen. Välavvägd syra, lime, ingefära och lite enbär, lätt och ganska clean och inte riktigt vanlig Crooked Stave-klass. Men helt klart gott.

750 bottle. pours a medium brown color with a smallish beige head that soon recedes to a fine ring. The aroma is strong and is dominated by the raspberries, there is also some oak in the aroma. The taste is tart/sour mixed berries in a mild ale base. The palate is full and the carbonation soft. Finishes long with lingering sour berries. Overall: Decent sour ale,

Bottle pour at The Whale Outpost.
Golden hued, oily, light froth.
Serious cooked down apricot & mango, margarine, tokaji grape dessert wine, lots of raw oak on the nose. A little cheesy once it warms.
As expected, incredibly sour. Rounded apricot, muscadine twang, jolly rancher sweet but extra aecitic. Lacquered dried mango. Warming belly.
Tasty, just too sharp & difficult.
