Bottle to pair with Persian feast. Pours hazy orange gold with white head. Great nose of florals, citrus, and funk. Tastes of citrus orange, pine, floral, horse blanket, Brett, and cheerios. Very dry on finish making you immediately want another sip. Really nice.

The Sampler, Brooklyn 375ml ($9): Pours a hazy light orange with a white head. Aroma is the bretty funk, with some wood, with a winy feel to it, but better. Taste is citrus, sour funk. Aftertaste is sour citrus. It is kind of like sour candy, but more natural tasting. Quite good, but not as much of a Belgian Witbier as just a sour. Quite good though.

Woodiness is also very apparent. A little bit of sweetness makes its way in as well. Mild tart aftertaste. Way too easy to chug this expensive bottle in but a few sips, especially on a brutally hot day like today.

Brett is pretty controlling in the taste. Is sort of like a toned down version of the Hop Savant, which I had right before (way less hops). Really slight lemony sourness. Funked out farmhouse aftertaste. A good saison, especially for the light alcohol.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a small off-white head that dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is yeast, lemon, hay, barnyard, vinous. Flavor is medium tart with a dry finish and some zesty citric bitterness. A bit woody/tannic as well. Medium body, low carbonation. Interesting, but a little harsh.

Cellar Reserve ’13 Release. Enjoyed at 60F in a stemmed wine glass.

A - Appearance is cloudy and burnt orange. Nice 2 finger head, sticky lacing throughout.

S - Nose has oranges, cloves, lacto yeast and other citrus notes. There’s a lot of funk with some lemon peel and ropey qualities and just a hint of tropical notes.

T - Taste big and dry. Starts sweet and citrus like, taste up front is very similar to a Gueuze. In the middle, you get a big oaky sour taste with orange peel. The finish is a boozy, bourbon taste and burn. It tastes like a 10% beer and not a 7% beer.

M - Dry, smooth, medium body, really fills the mouth with carbonation

O - Overall, it’s drinkable and delicious but the whiskey comes through very strong. I might like the standard version more if it was as sour as this.

Pours hazy golden with a small frothy white head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sour, funky and slightly fruity with crackers, passionfruit, elderberries, pink grapefruit juice, hay, dry soil, barnyard, pepper corns, dry wood, cloves, orange juice, lemon juice, sourcream and lemon zest. Taste is sour and slightly fruity with crackers, unripe tropical fruits, pink grapefruit juice, lemon juice, dry soil, cloves, white pepper corns, cloves, hay, passionfruit, gooseberries, cape gooseberries, barnyard, sour milk and white bread. Mouthfeel is slightly crisp, dry, tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is sour with crackers, yoghurt, lemon juice, passionfruit, hay, barnyard, dry soil, grapefruit juice and hints of pepper corns and cloves. Very nice and very similar to a good refreshing Berliner Weisse.

Draft at The Festival. Cloudy yellow color, white edge head. Aroma of earthy and dusty lemons. Taste is similar.

Tap at the barrel cellar - turbid gold, with a thick, well-sustained head - aroma of strong oak, light funk, light basement, strong citrus rind - flavor is initially moderately acidic and medium dry - mild oak up front - middle has mild orange sweetness - some cheesy brett funk late, some light floral notes, finishing moderatelg acidic with a little bit too much bitter oak (but not nearly as bad as the spring) - it’s a decent brew.
