A very malty nose with lots of caramel and honey mixed together, followed by some soft citrus. In the mouth it’s much hoppier with grapefruit and passionfruit dominating the malt. The length is interesting - it’s not particularly long at the back, but it is really fizzy right at the very tip of the tongue, kind of like sherbert. A nice beer.

Pours gold with a small head.Nose shows a fair bit of fruity hops and some faint bready malt.Very similar flavours, faint fruity hops and a lot of sweet cookie dough-like malt. Finished with a somewhat sharp bitterness.Carbonation could be higher just to dry out the finish a bit.

From a 330ml bottle on 24/1/2011. Has a mild aroma of sweet malt and grass. There’s a strong Euro malt flavour, with a light dash of citrus fruit. Finishes with a good, lingering hop kick. All up, a pretty good crack at a pilsener.

[12/10] Bright gold with an inch of very white head that fades quickly to a coat. Medium bead. Hay and hop nose: the Kiwi influence is there (passionfruit, gooseberries), but mingled with earth and meadows. Quite fruity and sweet with orange and passionfruit. Quite prominent bitterness. The new world influence is slightly greater in the taste, but not to the point of clashing - more of a twist on more traditional pilsners. Not bad, but a little too much sweetness and fruit for me. [3.2]As Beer Garden Pilsner. Yep, nice hops but still too sweet for me.

Copper coloured body with a tiny bit of orange tint and a thin tan head. Aroma of light hops, grain, apricots and some other light sweetness. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops up front with some metallic tastes, a touch of malt, some light caramel and perhaps some thin resiny notes. Aftertaste fairly mild, only showing a little bit of hops and nothing complex nor lasting enough to mention. Overall, a fairly light-bodied and underwhelming APA, but still - given the bottle’s proximity in location to where in was produced and where it was drunk - I’m very happy to have tried it. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from SlowBeer in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 31-December-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 26-July-2010.

From a bottle (size mysteriously not specified). Has a nice grassy, fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet, caramel and malty. Nice assertive (if not massive) bitter finish. Almost the bastard child of a Matlida Bay Alpha Pale Ale and a Wicked Elf Pale Ale. Good stuff. Rating 3.7.

Rerate on 12/4/2012. (330ml bottle, IBU listed as 42). Pours a clear deep golden with a small head. The nose is a a lovely malty fruit combo. Has a huge caramel malt flavour with some toffee, along with some citrus fruit and nutty notes. Finishes with a firm and very satisfying hop bitterness. I thought this was good the first time, but I’m even more impressed the second time round. This is a fantastic APA and is criminally under-rated on here imo.

Bottle. Amber with medium light beige loose head. Grass, grapefruit and biscuit aroma. Prominent caramel malt. Somewhat cloying fruitiness. Surprisingly gentle hops given the nose. [2.9] Again, smells nice. But the caramel just lobs.

Pours golden amber with a small head.Big citrusy aroma, but more tangerine than the usual grapefruit/orange. Also hints of tropical fruit, pine. Quite grassy. Some sweet biscuity malt with a little caramel.Flavour is more malt dominated. Quite clean. There’s some green grassy hops there but not as much as the aroma suggests. Finishes with a rather tame bitterness.Mouthfeel is very good, perhaps a little prickly at first but it calmed down soon enough.Quite impressive!
