On tap at Derrick Tavern. Pours a light amber color with a rather large creamy head. The aroma is very malty with caramel and honey. Good lacing on the glass. The taste is caramel with a bitter dry finish. I enjoyed this one.

Can, shared with and courtesy of ozujsko who brought it from London (thanks!) So my first Barley Wine is a canned InBev product....ooookaaay.... Poured a nice darker orange colour with a medium sized off white head that went away at a medium head. As fizzy as Coke. What the... And the taste is... Oh, dear. A malt liquor. Which the almost completely alcohol-driven nose confirms (it’s a bit malty as well). A good malt liquor but a malt liquor nonetheless. Malt, somewhat peachy, heavy alcohol, notes of lemon... barley wine... right. Quite a strong bitterness near the end... hopefully from hops, and it’s almost unpleasant. If not for the aftertaste, this’d be my malt liquor of choice... if I had to choose between malt liquors that is.

Draught, 20 ounces, drank at O’Connell’s, savoured June 7 2007; eye: golden with yellow reflections, thick white head made up of tiny bubbles giving it the appearance of cream, so much lacing it looks like velvet, clear; nose: hops, vanilla, banana but not as much as the two preceding weeks, fresh, a bit of alcohol, citrusy; mouth: the head catches the bitterness making the head tastes like agressive bitterness, malt, spices, relatively smooth, rather thin, agressive and unpleasant bitterness in the finale that contrasts somewhat with a beer that is smooth and not that tasty, texture is creamy at the start and then watery, medium-light body, good carbonation, slightly bitter and sweet FRANÇAIS En fût, 20 onces, bue chez O’Connell’s, savourée le 7 juin 2007; oeil : dorée avec des reflets jaunâtres, épaisse mousse blanche formée de très petites bulles lui donnant l’apparence d’une crème, tellement de dentelle qu’on dirait du velours, claire; nez : houblon, vanille, banane mais beaucoups moins présente que les deux semaines précédentes, fraîche, un peu d’alcool, citrique; bouche : la mousse capte toute l’amertume et cette même mousse goûte une amertume agressante, malt, épices, relativement douce, plutôt mince, amertume agressante et déplaisante en finale qui contraste fortement avec une bière douce et pas très goûteuse, texture à la fois crémeuse au début puis aqueuse, corps moyen-léger, bonne carbonatation, légèrement amère et sucrée

500ml can (Draughtflow system). Pale body with plenty of small bubbles from the nitro device. Foamy head. Not much aroma, some slightly roasted malt. Flavor is slightly roasted malt with a hint of caramel. The body is light and much to aroma. This nitro stuff makes the beer smooth, but it’s very one-dimensional. Noting really wrong here besides the thin body, but really boring in fact.

Bottle at Berliner Bierfestival. Clear, pale golden pour, with a white head. Weak nose, mostly grain and hay, but there’s something alcohol-like there as well. Weak flavor as well, with fruits and some hops, leading to a finish with some hops and bitterness. Thin to medium body. Boring and quaffable. (070804)
