Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.
We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Cask hanpull at The Evening Star, Brighton. Amber coloured disappearing off white head. Toffee on the aroma. Quite sweet in the mouth. It’s a decent ESB, but the sweetness is a bit over the top. Some peppery hop on the finish. Smooth rounded toffee malt. Drinkable enough.

On cask at Baker Street W’spoons 27/2/09. Nice dark looking winter brew, quite rich and fruity but also a little plain. Very easy to drink. I rather like this brewery especially their A over T.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] Dark tawny brown with a thin creamy tan head; aroma of malted milk and toasted grain; very milk-like in consistency, texture and flavour, slightly sour at first but developing rich toasted flavours, and a warming toffee finish. An excellent mild.

Bottle, 9%. Weak dried fruit flavour. Cloudy dark orange colour. No head. The flavour is sweet and fruity, dark fruit and so on. Has a little toasted notes as well, balancing off the sweetness. The alcohol is not as distinct as could be expected.
