33cl bottle. Pours a deep amber-red with a nice little skimming of froth on the top. The nose has burnt biscuits, treacle and some sultanas. The taste is burnt ginger biscuits with currants, then a dark chocolate note on the end. The palate is medium bodied and beyond with a thick-ish texture and a reasonable finish - good length but could have been more tapered! Overall, a nice winter ale.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Coke like appearance, dark peaty brown with a tawny glow and a ring of beige head; rich aroma with coffee and chocolate and also some oaty malts; strong malty flavour with smokey treacle, but then rather thin and unpleasantly bitter, leaving a watery finish.

[Bottle at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe] Pours black with a thin tan head. Smooth and creamy at first, with milk chocolate, black coffee and growing caramel. Fizz and a hint of grassy hops at the end. Quite enjoyed it actually.

Bottle shared by Barry at Harbury Fields Campsite, Harbury Warwickshire, 02.09.11 Pours more dark brown than black. Malty on the nose with some dark sugar, taste is more of the same. Soft in the mouth, with some bitterness, quite good. A6 A3 T7 P4 Ov13 3.3

Bottle kindly thanks to Ethereal. Thanks a lot Caspar. One on my road to the Olympic 10k. I like schwarzbiers on the whole. Tasty black lagers are always one of my favs. Very very deep ruby colour with thick beige head. Smokey roasty charcoal aroma. Even a touch of dark fruits. Yes drinkable dark lager with some charcoal and a touch of 60% cocoa choc too touch of milk in there too. Very decent if slightly lactic schwarz. Cheers Caspar this was one of the 10k that was enjoyable to drink.
