Blaengawney Farm, Hafodyrynys, Crumlin, Newbridge, NP11 5AY, Wales
Description
Reaching from The Marches in the North and South to Redwick on the flood plain of the Severn; some old farms still have their stone mills now abandoned to history. Here at Blaengawney Farm we have taken the old traditional methods of cider making from fresh cider apples and applied a new philosophy to our production, stealing a few techniques from wine makers along the way. You are just as likely to find ciders ageing in ancient oak barrels in our mill, alongside large wine fermenters made from stainless steel.
We have not yielded to the trend of adding syrups and berries to our cider. Instead we have taken a more grown up approach with care and attention that is needed to blend a fine cider worthy of acclaim from some of the most respected critics, and our ever growing following of loyal customers.
Hallets and Blaengawney are brands of the same business.

Box @ Bottle & Barrel after a 90 mile ride. Surprisingly pale complexion, clear. Lacks a good oaky woody depth, a bit watery. Really unlike any Hallets cider I've had before. Expected more from this.

Cask at the Sheffield Tap. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with no head. The aroma is fresh green apple with hints of rum. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a smooth, watery, dry apple, herbal, light rum palate. Medium to light bodied with flat carbonation. The rum notes were faint in the extreme.

330ml bottle - Pours a pale golden colour with a short lived thin white head. The aroma is apple juice, toffee apple and straw. A medium sweet taste, light fruity apple flavours, not a lot of depth in the flavours; a medium dry finish.

Bottle from Stori. Appearance - loads of carbonation with head blowing up and then receding quickly. Light golden. Nose - fresh, apples which are fairly sweet, while still having good apple tartness. Taste - more of the same, both sweet and sour apples going on. Very fresh. Palate - tangy and bittersweet from beginning and through the middle. Dry, tangy finish. Overall - good.
