Description
Ridgeway Brewing was established in 2002 by master brewer Peter Scholey (former head brewer at Brakspear) and his wife Vanda. The name comes from the ancient trade route that winds its way through English countryside between small towns. It has been around for thousands of years, adapting with the changing times, The reason why we chose the name Ridgeway, apart from living on it, was that we hope to create lasting experiences, believe in the long term and love the outdoors.

Bought by Crafty Brewing in February 2025.

Bottled. Copper brown, bronze color, small creamy white head. Aroma of leather, just like in "Lump of Coal" - propably hops that is. Also a bit grassy, alcoholic. Full bodied, grassy hoppy, pale malts as description says, bitterness with some alcohol. Long bitter aftertaste. Toffeish palate. Like the mix of strong bitter and Scotch ale.

Bottled. Orangeish golden colour, small beige head, lacing. Aroma is hops, caramel and earth. Flavour is spices, caramel, toffee, fruity hops and even a bit candy sugarish. Hides it’s alcohol well. Smooth and easy to drink. Also a lot of banana.

Bottled. Very dark ruby color, small firm tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, leather, some hops, maybe some spices too. Toasted malts, some alcohol, cumin, licorice. Alcohol and toasted notes are dominating the aftertaste. Interesting flavors and aromas, I wonder if some spices have been used or it is just combination of used malts and hops.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 7 Oct) Golden yellow colour with small white head. Malty nose with fruity notes of citrus. Fruity taste with citrus, mandarin, apricots. Bready, dry finish with grassy hops. Enjoyable, but hardly exciting.

Oxford Beer Festival 2003, (retrospectivel added from notes taken at time). This was a new brewery in 2003 and made it’s debut at the Oxford Beer Festival in October, this beer ran out quite quickly and one can see why. Copper coloured beer with some good malty and hoppy notes, flavour again both quite hoppy and malty but with nice underlying toffee sweetness very tasty and very moreish.

Bottle conditioned, Tesco, Cowley, 20-10-06. Golden coloured with small white head quite an aromatic beer with floral notes and some summer fruits. Taste was initially peachy and apricots but softening and a pleasant bitterness coming through, this reminded me a little of Badgers Golden Glory.

Bottle: Big floral hoppy, resinous nose with a dry citrus-fruitiness; hazy, amber coloured, medium-sized fluffy head, that diminishes slowly; modrerate to strong bitter flavour, hidden sweetness, light to medium bodied, quite soft MF; lingering resinous, hoppy, slightly tart and fruity finish. A spicy, well made brew.......
