Description
Ridgeway Brewing was established in 2002 by master brewer Peter Scholey (former head brewer at Brakspear) and his wife Vanda. The name comes from the ancient trade route that winds its way through English countryside between small towns. It has been around for thousands of years, adapting with the changing times, The reason why we chose the name Ridgeway, apart from living on it, was that we hope to create lasting experiences, believe in the long term and love the outdoors.

Bottle from Hilliers Garden Centre, Windlesham. Aroma has sweet but sour fruit, almonds and glue. Golden brown. Fluffy foamy translucent white head. Initial medium sour berries. Some hints of underlying nutty umami. In the finish some low key syrupy sweetness makes a brief appearance but oldschool boiled veg is also present. As I drink more a bitter note appears throughout. Medium bodied. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Basic for the style. I'd like a warming fruit nutty beer but this doesn't achieve that. It's rather low key and would be one noted if it didn't develop the later bitterness.

Bottle from Hilliers, Windlesham. Aroma is grainy and malty with citrus and boiled veg. Copper gold. Thin foamy white head. Medium bitter with a zesty citrus sour streak. Underlying malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. It's OK although the combination of the citrus and hops leave an off aftertaste for me.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, vinous nose with treacle-toffee, caramel, dried fruit, dates, apricots, orange peel and a touch of maple syrup. Malty, vinous taste with notes of dried fruit, dates, apricots, orange peel, treacle, toffee, caramel, nuts and a sweet and vinous finish with a mild resiny, citric bitterness. More than medium body, sweet. Sweet, boozy and quite unrefined. Still fairly enjoyable.
