Gravity cask at Badelynge Bar, Stourbridge. Pours jet black with a thin head. Aroma is oily roast and liquorice. Taste has oily roast, bitter coffee and liquorice.

This used to be a lot weaker (3.6/3.8 % ABV). Cask half-pint at The Anvil, Shifnal on 22nd August 2021 at 4.3%. Strange tasting beer all round, might even have been 'off'. Amber pour, white crust on top.

27th July 2021. Hand-pulled half-pint, sat with 'Martinsh' in The Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Ruby hue to the dark body, beige head of smooth bubbles. Aroma and taste both have Rye to the fore with a little helping of bitter chocolate for interest.

Cask at the Queens Head, Stourbridge. Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma is earthy marmalade and grapefruit. Taste has marmalade and earthy hedgerow fruits.

There are far too many King Korvaks around to be healthy – but I think I’ve got the right one. ABV is correct and it just says “Champion Porter” after it. Anyway, cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours almost black with a “guinnessy” cream head. Lots of chocolate, coffee and grains in the aroma – mmm ! In the mouth it has a smooth creamy texture with flavours of roasted malts, coffee and liquorice coming through. Finish is quite fruity with some hints of alcoholic strength. This is a beer with a bit of character.

500ml bottle. Pours dark ruby with a large head. Aroma is sweet smoked ham, lemon and spicy rye. Taste is sweet with smoked ham, rye and a touch of soapy lemon.

500ml bottle from brewery. Look - clear dark brown, off white head Nose - malts, grain, stone fruits, smoke but above all earthy. Taste - malty, sweet, stone fruits, a touch of smoke but very subtle, earthy but with a light-fruity hop that comes to the fore. Palate - medium body, soft carbonation, a mild dryness. Overall - enjoyable, some nice character to this.

500ml bottle from brewery. Look - near black, small tanned head, nice retention. Nose - malts, grain, chocolate, coffee, a touch earthy. Taste - sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, touch of bread, roasted coffee bean bitter finish. Palate - medium bodied and smooth with a nice soft to zingy carbonation. Overall - good flavoursome depth to this with the body to match.

500ml bottle, same name and artwork but now at 6% and entitled 'West Coast IPA'. Having not tried the older version its 50/50 a different beer but don't want to get tied up in semantics and therefore will review here. Look - clear light amber, small white blanket of head, nice retention Nose - biscuit malts, some sweetness and fruity/aromatic floral hop. Taste - biscuit malts, grains, citrus zest, sultanas, pine, modest bitterness. Has a certain rich depth to it. Palate - medium body, dry clinginess to the teeth. Overall - Enjoyable. Half old English IPA / half West Coast IPA. A bit different.

500ml bottle from brewery. My first Kolsch style. Eye - clear dark gold, three finger frothy head, lots of lacing. Nose - light but creamy, milk bottle confectionary, hint of pilsner like malts. Taste - a little sweet with confectionary note as above, touch of light fruit hop - getting raspberry, but with a dry clean pilsner note. Palate - high carbonation and a bit too frothy in the mouth for my taste. Otherwise light to medium body. Overall - a nice refreshing beer, certainly different to what I have tried before.
