Description
Epic ales to celebrate legendary Dwarfen deeds! The Fownes Brewing Company was started in 2012 to bring a fresh breed of outstanding ales and porters to the good folk of the Black Country. In the seven years since we rolled the first cask out of the brewery doors we've gone from strength to strength, picking up awards and recognition on a regional and national scale. In the autumn of 2019 we took the bold stride to relocate the brewery deeper into the heart of the Black Country, so that we could forge our next chapter and expand our ability to bring our unique, epic ales to a wider audience than ever before.

500ml bottle from brewery. Eye - slightly hazy gold, two fingers of clean white head. Looks the part. Nose - tropical aroma with a strong caramel malt background. Taste - tropical notes with citrus, caramel, biscuit, slight wheat-yeast undercurrent. Bittersweet at the end giving it a nice bite. Palate - medium body, a nice zing to the carbonation without being overdone, slightly chewy. Overall - this Session IPA has a body closer to that of a full IPA but manages to keep the flavours light and refreshing. Very good.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton - as Korvak’s Saga Chapter III Lament, but this beer not the 7.6% one. Pours almost black with a small beige head and good lacing. Not a strong nose, but some chocolate in the aroma. In the mouth there is some dark fruits to start off with, but that quickly gets swamped by masses of coffee grounds, chocolate and roast malts. Finish is bitter dark coffee. Excellent, could drink this all day !

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford (not listed in RateBeer) Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a small white head. Good lacing and some sediment in the body. Has an aroma of fruit salad – more specifically the juice in tinned fruit salad ! In the mouth it is sweet and watery with oranges and apples. Fruit and a hint of ginger in the finish. It’s OK, but somewhat weird.
