12 oz bottle from World Market; Nose of nuts, caramel with a maple twinge. Clear brown with a medium glass-lacing head. Flavor has a little peppriness, caramel, toffee, and a hint of bitterness. Actually a decent brown, beats the hell out of Newcastle!

On tap at The Rake, London. A deep dark brown colour with light beige head. Very rich, sweet, aniseed taste. Certainly did not expect to find this in London. Overall an interesting experience but I probably won’t seek it out again.

Pours a viscous thick yellow-lighted brown beer with yellow-brownish head, fed by lively carbonation, but fast reduced to yellow rim. Strong malty, caramelly, molasses nose, with liquorice, moccha, French coffee. Liquorice grows stronger in time. Liquorice, very roasted, sweet & alcohol in the background; molasses, ketjap or waffles syrup. Warming up, apart from the liquorice imprint, also more hops appear luckily. Creamy MF, very full-bodied, alcoholwarming, chewy. Pretty impressive brew, and not unbalanced at all. My bone of dissention lies mainly in the all the same too dominant liquorice/drop thumbprint. Thanks to DavidA!!

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vivid red-orange color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was tart sweet berries. The flavor was tart and bitter with a sharp berry presence and tangy malts and honey underneath. The finish was long with tangy berries. Decent.

Bottle, The Rake, London. Reddy amber colour with a fading off white head. Not much in the aroma department that stood out. Rather boring and nondescript malty flavour with vague hoppage. Some nuttiness too but all a bit insipid and bland. Just about drinkable, but disappointing.

Pours dark amber with off white head. Sweet malt and somewhat boozy aroma. Dark fruit and pomegranate flavors. Very sweet with a chewy mouthfeel. Intersting to try, but it’s not for me.
