Bottle: Poured a orange brown amber with a creamy off white to light beige head. Aroma is roasted malts. Taste is rich with malt and yet off set with just enough hops to be balanced.

Bottle from Utobeer. Clear attractive amber colour. Lasting thin beige head. Certainly hoppy, but more peppery hoppy tongue stinging hoppy than PNW hoppy. Some ok nutty caramel malts. Some sweetness and richness. Carbonation makes it a bit metallic. Some fruit salad in there somewhere. Fine.

Bottle from Utobeer. Very dark brown colour with thin disappearing head. Some dry malt on aroma, some yeastiness. Mouthfeel is ok, but nothing interesting, flavours are some sour fruit and some dry malt. Bit toasty. Bit of nuttiness I suppose, some drying on tongue on finish. Fine, but rather bland and dull I thought. Not even as interesting as a British premium bitter of this strength. The malts are there, but don’t impart sufficient flavour. No bad or off flavours.

22 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark reddish brown color with almost no head. Looks almost like motor oil. Decent lacing. Aroma is very heavy in dark fruits.... plum, raisin. Also roasted malts, toffee and a slightly tart finish. Taste is fairly assertive hops with toffee, dates, raisins, rye. Full bodied. Slight alcohol warmth.

(11/23/08) Draught at Hop Leaf in Chicago. Hazy amber color with a medium, stable, off-white head. Aroma of malt, some toasted notes, caramel, fruits, and some slightly floral, slightly earthy, hops. Sweetish malty flavor at first with some caramel and light biscuit hints, continues pleasant and bitter with some grapefruit. Medium-bodied.

bottle - Pours hazy orange with a thin, off-white head and smells of malt, spice, and a trace of fruit. It tastes sweet with a touch of bitterness in the finish. The dark fruit, pomegranate obviously but I wouldn’t have known for sure without seeing the label, is there but it’s pretty mild. Mostly it’s just sweet malt burying that 8% abv. It’s alright, but this brewery can definitely do better.

Pours clear amber with thick creamy tan head. Aroma has plenty of rye, malts with notes of caramel. Taste, thick rye mouthfeel, heavy dose of hops with underlying fruits (grapefruit, subtle citrus), all balanced out with good malty notes. Overall leaves a thick creamy taste. After taste has some warming notes of possible dark fruits coupled with a good 10% kick.

Deep mahogany with garnet highlights under a thin tan head. Dark dried fruit and molasses aroma. Sweet with some smooth roast bitterness. Full bodied sipper. Not quite a BarleyWine but it comes close. Very enjoyable.
