Bottle from Legacy Liquor, Vancouver
Dark amber color, with small head. Some aroma of nuts and vanilla (the barrel), but also something that will soon become an infection. Good body strength; it has malt flavor, and lingering red wine sourness, unexpected; moderately sweet; if this a Doppelbock, the character is totally lost; it’s a decent beer, but probably infected and really not deserving the high price tag (~16$ in BC).

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber / burgundy with a small off-white head. Aroma is strange, with dark fruits, cheap bourbon barrels, and some weird nutty notes. Flavour is very simple and cheap, with cheap bourbon barrels, dark fruits and nutty notes. Very cheap and lacking complexity. I expected so much more given the average rating, but this is rather bad.

bottle - This brew smells of caramel malt and a hint of dark fruit. It’s sweet with caramel and toasted malt. There’s a little dark fruit. Hops is minimal. It tastes similar to many of their other beers, fairly good but nothing that stands out much.

Mild gusher. Almost opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Palate is airy with mild fine carbonation. Mild sourness interesects with the bourbon and rye and produces a tangy coca cola thing. Something like mild cinnamon. Light finish. It’s not entirely unpleasant but a blend of barrel aged beers that want to be a sour/red brown was always going to be a little messy.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with an enormous fluffy orange-tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was funky, chalky and bretty with Pez and dark fruits. The flavor was tart, dry, bitter and chalky with red wine, a bit of tart dark fruits and then more chalk. Very long finish. Medium body. Disappointing.

Very nice crystal clear amber and copper body with a thin, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of pineapple and light piney hops with a lot of malt, some honey sweetness and a bit more from the tropical fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive floral and piney hop flavours at first with some mild metallic and earthy malt flavours follow behind. Aftertaste shows a little grassy and sweet flavour from the malt, but largely an average, if that Imperial IPA. Overall, I was expecting a bit more from this one, but it was underwhelming and frankly not worth trying to find this one, as funny and tongue-in-cheek as it is. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street), DC on 19-July-2015 for US$3,49 sampled at home in Washington on 07-September-2015.

Bottle. Lemon, barley malt, and lemon peel aroma. Golden yellow with large white head. Sweet lemon barley malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice body. Pretty good.

12oz bottle pours with an amber body that supports a weak tan head. The aroma offers up fruit right away with grape jam followed closely by some prune and date notes. Behind the fruitiness I get chocolate and a sliver of caramel malts. The taste begins with a rush of flavors ranging from semi bright grape fruitiness, smooth sweet malts, chocolate malts, molasses, prunes, raisins and dates. It picks up thin juicy and somewhat tart grape flavors midway and into the finish. Yet another fun beer from Hebrew.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/24/2015. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, plum, pear, apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, nuttiness, light banana, peppercorn, clove, light vanilla/chili pepper, and herbal/spice earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and spice notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, pear, apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, nuttiness, light banana, peppercorn, clove, light vanilla/chili pepper, and herbal/spice earthiness. Moderate amount of peppery yeast/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, pear, apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, brown bread, chocolate, nuttiness, light banana, peppercorn, clove, and herbal/spice earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and spice flavors; with a great malt/yeast/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and slightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice spiced Belgian brown ale style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and spice flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. The chili pepper flavors were pretty minimal, but were probably being overshadowed by all of the other spices. Very minimal pepper heat noticed as well. A very enjoyable offering all around.
