Level 6 Bottleshare. Opaque dark brown beer, decent tan head. Smooth and slightly soft palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft creamy dark malts. Slightly tangy and bitter coffee. Tangy dark fruits. Mild spice. Soft but rich bourbon soaked dark fruits. Spicy twangy bitter finish. Despite its age, this is a somewhat inelegant beer. Tasty but clunky. Bit of a disappointment.

12 oz can from Boise Co-op. Dark pour, but still clear. Small beige foamy head. Nutty, roasty aroma. Taste follows with more solid roast, light sweetness. Classic example of the style.

16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Dark brown pour, foamy head fades to flat. Aroma hits first with some booziness, sweet malts linger underneath. Malty taste too, not to far off from a Barleywine. Latent warmth hangs in the chest for a while.

Ever so slightly hazy light amber and bronze coloured body with a lighter golden tint when held up to a light, but a smooth and relatively small single to perhaps two centimetre tall head. Aroma of the funky spice and graininess with a dose of salt, brine and astringency, but the caraway seed is very distinct throughout. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent grainy and spicey flavour at first that has a lot of flavours toward rye, caraway seed and some other funky notes that aren't typical in beer - and it shows, but the finish is a touch smoother with some plain biscuity malts, a bit of sweetness and a light citrus finish. Aftertaste shows the spices more than anything with a distinct grainy and astringent finish with the caraway seed, rye, salt and pepper notes that show through just about everything. Overall, a funky beer, and it shows. Not necessarily horrible - just interesting, especially when you consider their beers generally hit their mark in terms of what the label states. Not really my cup of tea, but I can't fault them for trying. This would be great alongside a sandwich from Katz's - too bad I'm not in New York. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-September-2018 for US$2,25 sampled on 07-March-2019 at home in Washington.

Bottle shared by Andrew, thanks! Pours a deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains, Belgian yeast, light peppers, chocolate and a hint of toffee backing. Flavor has sweet grains, Mexican chocolate and Belgian yeast with a bit of bread underlying.

12 oz can from Brewers Haven. Slick, thick black pour, capped by a creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolatey, very chocolatey. Taste is more sweet chocolate, a touch of roasty malt bitterness and creamy milk sugar. Thick and creamy, starts sweet, finishes bitter.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, barely centimetre tall off-white and tan head that fades very quickly to just about nothing. Aroma of super pungent, sweet and lightly spiced notes with a lot of malt, bunches of figs and pitted fruits and more alcohol than imaginable, even at 17% - this is insanely strong in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Super strong alcohol and malt flavours at first with the pit fruits, figs and just plain earth and alcohol noticeable at the very end, but the alcohol and punch as you first sip this one hit very strongly. Quite strong malt and alcohol showing right afterwards, directly when the bar and barely over the scent - very strong throughout. Medium-bodied; A nice deep and pungent malt and alcohol flavour at first with some pitted fruits, a deep pungent and grapefruit smell lelft previoulsy showing only in very strong beers. Aftertaste is incredibly pungent with the malt, syrup and very low alcohol pakes this even better. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 08-November-2014 for US$5,99, sampled at home in Washington almost five years later, on 24-January-2019.
