2017 Fourth Edition: Deep copper coloured body with a thin, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of crisp malt, light sugars from fruit and caster sugar and a little note of mellow hops and some stronger alcohol scents around. Medium-bodied; Strong rich malts around the edges with a nice floral and grassy hop bite, but not strong at all and a little bit of alcohol, but some light fruit notes showing apricot and peaches towards the end. Aftertaste shows a very mellow and subdued malty flavour with a good medium-bodied bite along with some subtle alcohol and a nice smooth grain finish makes this go down quite easily. Overall, a nice rich beer that shows mostly like a Golden Ale or American Strong (sort of on the lighter end of the spectrum), but the chocolate isn't noticeable at all, yet this shows a nice character in which the best attribute is how mellow it is throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 09-March-2018 for US$2,69 sampled at home in Monroe, Connecticut with my brother & sister-in-law.

Rating from September 2009, initially put in the wrong place its taken me 9 years to put things right! Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Pours dark brown with a beige head, vanishes swiftlly. Good carbonation. Aromas of toffee, vanilla, dates, raisins. Flavours of roasted malts, caramel, black treacle. licorice, bitter chocolate. Finishes bitter, malty and slightly hoppy. Not too bad.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown with ruddy glints and a somewhat transient tan head. Aroma of darkish treacle and darkish fruits. A slightly sweet fruit aroma. Med + body. Flavor is darkish treacle and darkish fruits. There's also a brown sugar trail which is accompanied by some spice - like grains of paradise or similar. There's a slight heat burn. After awhile something like plums starts to pop up. Then there's a light astringency. Kind of like wood, but probably not that. I give up. It's too complex for me. To recap: Not dry, but some combo tends to provide balance. Pretty much a sipper, yet surprisingly, dangerously quaffable. Likin' it a lot.

Bottle: clear, yellow-amber with a small off-white head. Strong spruce/pine/cedar aroma.....a bit of skunky resin... Taste is light caramel malt, a lot of evergreens, grain malt, orange malt and peel. Bright, lively and a bit peppery. Quite enjoyable.......probably should have added some elements of Earl Grey Tea, though......not sure the Captain would totally approve..

Tap @ BOT, as She'brew Double IPA Version 2.0. Copper coloured. Pine, juicy, caramel. Fairly bitter. Good stuff.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours clear copper? with a slight, transient white head. Aroma is unusual. Sort of grape/chocolate? Med minus body. Flavor is (for me) sort of Concord grape and chocolate. There's other stuff, but my mind is bushwhacked on this one. More and more I'm thinking of the ancient Grapette Soda. Haven't had the Walmart follow on. Strange stuff, reminding me of my childhood meals at the "Junky Inn" - so called by my family - gosh knows what the real name was. But when you live in the middle of nowhere, you enjoy what ya got. Trust me.

Deep very dark brown coloured body with a thick, super dense and very lively light brown head, about seven centimetres tall. Aroma of hop pellets, over-yeastie and sugared wort and a dose of toffee and earth from the roasted malt product in the bill. Medium-bodied; Soapy and almost artificial hop bite with a big dose of yeast and astringent hop pellets coupled with some grain and lighter toffee and earthy characteristics near the end. Aftertaste is deep and robust with the alcohol and hops coming through almost immediately, but also showing the fake and pellet side of things instead of full hops themselves. Overall, a decently flavoured, but incredibly soapy and funky Black IPA that borders on the Imperial side of things from a taste-perspective, but not form an alcohol or body side of things, still good to try and well worth trying to find if you like Roastier IPAs! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Corner Store (Bait and Tackle) in West Palm Beach, Florida) on 26-December-2017 for US$4,49 sampled at my hotel room here in Disney World [Dolphin] on 28-December-2017.

12 oz bottle from a four pack. Poured into a La Chouff stemmed tulip on my daughters patio on 28th Dec 2017, during our winter holiday with her in California. No snow here! Hazy dull orange pour, neat foaming head of tight, white bubbles. Citrus leanings in the nose and taste (not surprised as I read the hops used and the fact they have added orange peel and limes in the brew).Grapefruit however is the main flavour and aroma I am getting. The beer is both bitter and citrus sour in nature, very refreshing in the afternoon sun here in Orange County.

I got this bottle in a trade with nutbown. Thanks Alan!
This pours a deep amber gold with a small head of foam. Again, there's lots of lacing like the others I've tried from them.
The smell is both hoppy and malty. Good notes of caramel and light floral hops with a rather strong peppery presence. My nose is happy.
The taste is stronger than the smell when it comes to the hops. Floral and piney hops dominate with a strong pepper spice flavour and a mild caramel malt backbone that I wish was more assertive. Dang, this is spicy and it makes me take long breaks between the sips. The alcohol is also more assertive than I care for and not nearly as well hidden as in their Jewbelation 11.
The mouthfeel is medium and nice, the carbonation is medium, and it finishes very bitter with some sweet tones though, I can't say that it's anywhere near balanced.
Bottom line: This one just doesn't do it for me and finishing the bomber will be a chore. Too much hop bitterness and pepper spice for the amount of malt that I can taste. Too extreme for me? I think so.

I got this bottle in a trade with nutbrown. Thanks Alan!
This pours a very dark brown with red tinges throughout. Nice small but steady as she goes tannish head of foam with lots of lacing.
The smell is on the sweet side and nice. Lots of caramel malt, dark fruit, a bit of chocolate, and some smoke.
The taste is malty and very nice. The caramel is there but I get a lot of sweet and dark chocolate flavours as well, some molasses and toffee, some black cherries...nice and complex flavours but not overly so. 11%abv, eh? Just a touch of warming after the swallow is all I get....very nicely hidden!
The mouthfeel overall is on the high end of medium but at times, it definitely feels thick and somewhat syrupy...not a complaint on my part at all. The carbonation is lightly done but fits so well with this American Strong Ale and it finishes with a good dark chocolate bitterness. Jeez, for how strong it is, this is impressively drinkable. I'd probably score it higher in that department if I was drinking it in the dead of Winter. ;^)
Bottom line: Anything that makes me go "ahhh" out loud gets a damn good recommendation from me for others to try it. Go ahead, *try* it!
