Traquair House Brewery
Microbrewery in Innerleithen, Scottish Borders, Scotland 🏴
Established in 1965
Peter Maxwell Stuart rediscovered the brewery in the early 1960’s and began brewing again as an experiment in 1965 using all the original equipment and fermenting the ales in the original oak tuns, some of which were over 200 years old. In 1990, following Peter’s death, his daughter, Catherine, took over the running of the brewery and it was expanded in 1994. Traquair employs 2 full time brewers and its rich dark ales are now exported all over the world although production remains tiny at only 1,000 hectalites a year.

(Bottle, vintage 2018) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, dates, fruit cake, treacle, apricot marmalade and chocolate. Malty, slightly roasty taste with notes of dried fruit, dates, raisins, caramel, treacle, coffee, prunes, soy sauce and a warming finish with fairly low bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Rich, sweet and warming. Very nice.

Poured from 11.2oz bottle(Room temp-best before June 2011)
a very dark brown with a small head of foam that dissipates quickly leaving just a wee bit of a layer.
The smell is a very fruity sweet..must be the coriander.
The taste has good sweet malt flavour up front with a solid spice background and... some plum notes. Pretty darned complex but the overall flavour seems to be just shy of greatness for me.
Bottom line: I'm glad I tried this ale but it's just not my cup of tea.

Gott

Aromas & tastes of dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, oak, chocolate, raisins, figs, hints of spice & sweet malt. Medium body. Dry fruity & malty finish. Excellent

Bottled. Poured dark with a super thin head. Flavor was fruity and caramel, some raisins. Some malts, prety light for what it is. Worth forking over 8 bucks at the ol’ supermarket.

Flaska från SB som fått stå lite för länge provad med ölföreningen. Tydliga ålderstecken, saknar kraft och smakar lite saftigt med mycket russin och torkad frukt. Fortfarande trevliga smaker men lite platt.
