Description
Many moons ago, in the black of the night, Viking invaders were about to attack our hometown of Stirling, when a howling wolf alerted the defenders, who saved the town. We raise a glass to that wolf. The Black Wolf.

Started brewing in January 2004 using the name City of Stirling Brewery. It was initially a sister brewery to Bridge of Allen and Trossachs Craft Brewery. During late 2005 a new company was formed to allow further investment and the brewery name was changed to just Stirling Brewery at the same time. The name then changed to Traditional Scottish Ales Ltd in 2006. The name changed once more in 2014 to its current version.

Gravity at the Pig’s Ear Beer festival 4/12/207. Sold under the ’Traditional Scottish Ales’ tag. Copper coloured Christmas beer. Aroma had plenty of cinnamon spice and some fruitiness. The flavour had some malt, plenty more spice and a decent bitter finish. Good as a one off.

Bottled. Pale brown, brief head. Fruity and alcoholi nose with wood and vanilla. Sweet and densely malty with lots of oaky whisky flavuor. Phenolic and fruity , vinous and warming. Low bitterness. Quite similar to the Innis & Gunn series, but more full of life.

500 ml bottle, bought in Edinburgh. ABV is 5.0%. Orange to amber colour, decent off-white head. Sweetish malty aroma with notes of marmelade, hints of oak and fortified wine. The flavour is also sweetish and fruity, hints of oak, moderate hops in the finish. Not bad, but a bit too much on the sweet side.

500 ml bottle, as "Tullibardine 1488 Majestic Whisky Ale", bought in Edinburgh. ABV is 7.0%. Brewed and bottled by Traditional Scottish Ales Ltd. for the Tullibardine Distillery, using the distillery’s spring water and malted barley. Clear and deep golden colour, pours very fizzy, when the fizziness subsides just a small white head remains. Strange aroma, sweetish / sugary and oaky, with peaty and fruity notes. The flavour is very sweet and alcoholic. There are notes of whisky casks and peat as expected, but I also expected something far drier and maybe more "scotch & club soda"-like, not this overwhelming sweetness. Are there any hops in this beer at all? Still, when you get used to the sweetness, the beer is drinkable - but remains a disappointment.

Small coarse white head. Deep coppery body with very light carbonation. Deep sugary darkly malty aroma with notes of whiskey, raisins, fruit, and tobacco. Some light smokiness, too. Aroma is strong and complex, but I don’t really like it too much. Deep sweet smoky chocolatey malt taste with strong notes of whiskey and dried fruit. Considerable alcohol heat; more than you’d expect from a 7% beer. Peppery mouthfeel. Dry, fruity alcoholic aftertaste. An interesting and powerful beer, but I don’t really like it that much. (0.5l bottle from gr0ve.)
