Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, a bit of chalkiness and a fruity finish. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, bitter hops and a fruity finish. Medium-full bodied. Interesting.

Can, which sprayed quite a bit on opening. Very nice smoky aroma, rich and Bambergesque! Nice bacon and smoked salmon. Shiny orange amber color with a huge head. Looks nice. Very smoky flavor, tasts like met has been added, much too sweet, with smoked caramel and a somewhat muddy finish. Smokiest Japanese rauch yet, for sure. Nice rich body. Good. Could be somewhat cleaner and less sweet, but decent stuff.

Creamy ruby tinted deep amber coloured body with a dense, thick tan head that looks like nitrogen, but it’s not - very nice actually! Aroma of fresh light hops (nice, as well!), caramel, toffee, potent fresh malt finished off with a touch of rice. Medium-bodied; Very nice balance of hops and sweetness - the malt is in the background, but the flavour really hinges on hops that are noticeable at first and then overwhelmed by a lot of caramel sweetness - but the balance is surprisingly right and for a beer like this on this side of the world, done very well. Aftertaste shows some earthy malt, a little toffee, a hint of alcohol, but the bitterness from the burnt sugars and hops is always noticeable. Overall, a surprisingly good beer that should be sampled if you can find this! I sampled this 350 mL can purchased from City’Super! (2 IFC Location) in Central, Hong Kong, SAR China on 30-June-2011 (my birthday) for HK$18.00 sampled on the other side of the world at home in Washington on 18-October-2011.

Clear golden coloured body with a thin off-white head that has a ton of very very small bubbles. Aroma of pale malt, light cardboard, some very mild fruit and a very very small amount of hops. Light-bodied; Sharp malty note with a touch of cardboard and alcohol, a touch of light hops and an otherwise mild finish. Aftertaste has a little earth, some light caramel, a few hops and mostly light malt coming through. Overall, not such a bad beer, rather mild, but showing a few nice flavours coming through. Medium coarseish offwhite head doesn’t last. Yellow body. Herbal fruity earthy aroma with grassy notes. Dry-sweet musty earthy herbal taste with grassy plastic notes. Mid-bodied. Dusty mouthfeel. Dry earthy apple aftertaste with dusty strawy notes. Urgh. (0.33l bottle shared by hcalsos. He brought it from Hong Kong. I suspect it’s been mistreated somewhere. Should rerate.)

Bottle from Hi Time. Pours very, very ruddy with a decent creamy beige head. Roast caramel aroma. Med body. Flavor is fruity! Fruity hop. It’s a bit sweet but there’s just about enough hop to cover that. Certainly a hoppier amber than many. There’s an interesting flavor in the background that’s burnt and herby. So this is a unique beer that is interesting and tasty. Not one of those dull, blah ambers.

Can. This beer is Creamy and tasty according to the can, when poured it is deep red with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of dutsy hops, straw, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and bread, leading to a dry roasted finish where a weird candy note appears. Thanks Theis for sharing.

Can 35 cl. Courtesy of Theis. Clear dark orangey brown with a dense and frothy light brown head leaving some lace. Hard roast malt in the nose, a little charcoal and licorice as wel. Medium body, sweet hard roast malt, some dark fruits and a somewhat unclean manure edge. No real bitterness. 200111

A perfect pour at Popeyes gives it a 5 for looks: Beautifull breaking leaves it with a thick brown head and and a dark brown colour. Light metallic roast aroma. Chocolate, a hint soy, a bit molassis. Chocolate aftertaste plus a hint salt. Unusual but good.
