A Belgian white from Saranac. That really says all you need to know. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium golden color with a large white head that quickly faded. The aroma was light and wheaty. The flavor was mild, wheaty and had some citrus but very little spice to it. There was a faint wheaty aftertaste. An acceptable Wit, but nothing I would really seek out again.

Basic lager. Nothing else to it. +++Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with a small white head. There was a nice sweet malt aroma. The flavor had a light smooth maltiness but had no noticeable hop presence. Relatively flavorless. Inoffensive but really not worth the effort.

I am not much of a basic stout drinker and have often found Saranac products to be rather uninspired so it happened that this brew threatened to take up permanent residence in my fridge as it was constantly bypassed in favor of other brews. Eventually after a few months of this I decided to have at it and try the bottle.+++ Sampled from the typical 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was definite roasted malt with moderate notes of caramel and vanilla and a bitter floral hop presence. The flavor was roasty - a nice mix of sweet and dry - and also had a noticeable floral hop presence with undertones of vanilla and caramel. There was a long finish. A bit thin in body. I was prepared to not be impressed by this one, but for a basic stout I found it remarkably drinkable.

Pretty mediocre. Amber color, notably caramelized flavors and aromas, somewhat buttery or butterscotchy but not diacetyl I don’t think, just a byproduct of the malty caramels. Light finish and palate.

Yet another mediocre Saranac product. Drinkable but nothing to seek out. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz bottle the beer pours a medium mahogany color with a minimal white head. The color really is pretty attractive. The aroma is sour, malty, nutty ad has a hint of molasses. The flavor is predominantly nut with some maltiness and hops. There is a hint of sweet caramel. The beer is dry on the finish and a little thin.

This one sat at the back of my fridge for months. It came as part of a sampler case - and I have to say that the concept of the beer did not really appeal to me. I have never had much luck with bottled black & tan beers.+++ Sampled from a 12 oz bottle the beer poured a dark black color with a medium brown head. The aroma was hoppy and mildly malty. The flavor was surprisingly strong with hops, roasted malt and a hint of chocolate and coffee. A little dry and hoppy on the aftertaste. Really a pretty pleasant beer. I almost wish I had tried it sooner.

Ugh. Pilsener and Saranac together. I must say that I did not enter into this one with much hope.While in no way will I say that I liked this beer it did manage to exceed my expectations. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a light tan-yellow color with a small white head that disappeared almost instantly. The aroma is sour and lightly hoppy. The flavor is bitter with a light hop presence that redeems it somewhat. The texture is fairly light and crisp - as it should be for a pilsener. The brewer notes this as a wheat beer, but I can detect no wheat flavor of any sort.

This is a surprisingly nice beer. I really think this beer is fairly underrated. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a dark red-caramel color with a medium sized light tan head. Very pretty in fact. The scent was sharp and hoppy and rather pleasant as well. The flavor washed over the tongue with noticeable malt and a tart, tangy and hoppy element. The malt really lingered on in the aftertaste.

Wow - really really light. No head. Strange fruity aroma, tones of blueberry and banana? Very light fizzy beery soda water flavor. Off-bitter finish. No redeeming characteristics at all.

Attractive darkened amber with large foaming head. Aroma of caramelized malts, a mild dose of spicy hops. Barest hint of chocolate in the nose, which comes through better on the palate, with a semi-dry finish. Generally balanced and clean featuring malts. Medium bodied and quaffable. Certainly not complex but still rather pleasant and a fine enough session beer. It may be a blend of pilsner and porter, but it sure could pass itself off as an oscura lager. Rerate: tastes more like a weakened porter.
