Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Hazy dark amber colour, beige head. Spicy aroma, cinnamon, cardamom, spekkoek, some citrus. Sweetish malt flavour, spicy, orange peel, somewhat bittersweet. Some caramel. Full body. Finish sweet spicy with some bitter touches. Nice and warming winter beer.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - 2009 vintage, at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20110915) The beer poured reddish brown and quite clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, vineousness and treacle. Palate was full bodied, warming and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, raisin, treacle, vineousness, caramell and low bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, treacle and bitterness. Very sweet beer at this point but still quite good. More aging perhaps would improve the taste.
