Rating Grand Cru 2009, opened 23 April 2011. Nice dark amber colour, small and light bubbles, small beige head. Aroma of caramel, honey, madeira, port, raisins and mango. Nice malty tones. Full flavour, rather sweet, caramel, raisins, dried fruits and malts. Strong alcohol notes. Finish sweetish but dry, ends rather abrubtly. (from 33cL bottle)

500 ml swingtop bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Ivar. ABV is 6,5%. Hazy amber colour, minimal head. Aroma of sweet wort and caramel, hints of oak and honey. Low carbonation. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma makes you expect, but is still malty with hints of caramel, and has tolerable hops in the finish.

Bottle 100 cl swing-top, thanks to ekstedt!Sampled on April 1, 2011Cloudy apricots color, small white head. Faint apricots and sweet scent. Sweet, apricots, some butter taste. Moussy mouthfeel, low bitterness.I had this back in 2004 or so as well, but way before I started rating, I think I enjoyed it more at that time.

Amber gold, hazy, white head. Aroma of coriander seeds, wheat malts, orange, some yeast and hops. Fresh taste, yeast, citrus and coriander, bit of sweets. Some lingering hops. Dry finish. (From tap @ De Kluizenaar, Bottendaal)

Bottle from Bier Koning. Hazy gold beer, tiny white head. Light dry palate. Delightfully fruity tripel! Sweet malt with tangerine, pear, apple and melon! Tiny hit of spice. Crispish dry finish. Carbonated bite as well. Great stuff - best of the numerous Dutch Tripels!

On tap at the Arends Nest, Amsterdam. Clear reddish amber beer, tidy white head. Smooth semi dry palate. Rich orange and dried fruits with cherry taking a lead. A little brandy and a trace of port. Sweetish cream underneath. Dry finish. Yum! Sophisticated beer! Much better than the 2005.

[330ml bottle, 2005 edition, gift from my wife - cheers!] Deep copper amber, negligible head, a lot of fine sediment in suspension. The slight fizz is just right for the beer. Heady, fruity port aroma. Huge alcohol burn continues throughout, but works with rather than against the beer. Caramel dominates, but with tons of sweet fruit (raisins, apples, rhubarb) thrown in. There’s a slight bitterness and dryness in the finish which, along with the carbonation, balances the sweetness well. A lovely sipping beer that made a decadent match for the blue cheese, crackers and quince jelly that I had it with!

2005 European bottle via a trade with bu11zeye. Pours with a murky brown body with a minimal head at best. Aromas are of cereal, brown sugar, dark fruits, raisins, black currants, fruit cake, alcohol, old curacao, and saw dust. Flavors of alcohol, grand manier, baked bread, citrus icing/glaze, cereal, white wine, lightly vinous. Caramel, toffee, decently bitter. Medium to light mouthfeel, surprisingly light body (all things considered); the beer has medium to light levels of carbonation. Big bubbles. Lots of booze. Good, could probably age a bit longer, but I think it would take more than age and hope to turn this beer from good to great.

2005 bottle, big thanks to Mes. Dark copper looks with a small lingering off white head. Sweet and fruity slightly vinous nose with notes of brown sugar and booze. Flavour commenced with a big dose of sweet malt, followed by some fruit and spice notes. Pretty complex with great balance. Decent length in the finish. Very drinkable and slid down an absolute treat. Dug it. My 1100th rate.
