Description
The monastery beers brewed in Andechs are the culmination of centuries old Benedictine brewing tradition and ultra modern brewing technology.
They are the ambassadors of traditional Benedictine hospitality, still practised today, and the monastery’s long history as a place of pilgrimage, without which the brewery would never have come about. Against this backdrop, the Andechs beer specialities provide a “taste” of the successful meld of Benedictine hospitality, Baroque culture, and the Bavarian lifestyle.
In brewing our premium beer, we exclusively use high quality ingredients. In addition, we give our beer specialities plenty of time to develop their aromas.
Over 100,000 hectolitres of beer are brewed each year at the foot of the Holy Mountain. A small number of Andechs beer specialities are on draught in the Bräustüberl and Klostergasthof taverns. Yet Andechs monastery beer is marketed not only throughout Germany, but also in many European countries.

0,5l from bottle at Apartment in Andechs. Bb 09.12.2026. Yellow cloudy color, rather big white head. smells yeasty, bready, bubblegum, light banana, spices. Pretty decent smell. Light body, soft carbonation. Tastes leathery, earthy, tobacco, bread, bubblegum, spices. Finishes medium bitter with notes of leathery, bread and spices. Decent, rather on the bitter side of things, I would actually prefer this a tad sweeter. Very good for a non alcoholic Weizen

0,5l from bottle at Apartment in Andechs. Bb 10.12.2026. Yellow clear color, small white head. smells earthy, bready, lightly fruity, yeasty, biscuits. Decent smell. full body, pearly carbonation. Tastes malty, caramel, spices, tobacco, honey. Finishes lightly sweet with notes of caramel, honey and spices. Drinkable, but feels rather heavy, a bit too simple for the Abv. A bit like a typical Austrian Heller Bock.

Bottles from House Of Trembling Madness (2020) and Against The Grain (2026). Clear golden body with a white head. Lively carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of dried leaves, buttered toast and rust. Flavour of rich malt backbone and marzipan with a peppery finish. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. Another top quality beer from Andechs. A malty, warming beer.

Bottle from Beer Merchants. It pours slightly hazy deep golden - blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is fragrant, spicy, clove rock, ripe banana, farmhouse style bread, orange marmalade, cola cubes, crystallized ginger, honeydew melon, pear drops and a touch of sherbet. The taste is smooth, hearty malts, bready, sponge cake, banana loaf, biscuit, toasted nut, quite sweet, heavy, fruit cake, warming spice, clove, ginger, pepper, cola cubes and a nip of booze with a smooth, malt driven finish. Medium+ body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Not as much depth as their usual offerings,.maybe a touch sweet? Not bad overall.

[19/9/24 moved from Spezial Hell because apparently this is different] As Festbier. Lurid gold with a white head. Aroma of sweet bread, weeds. But does have a rich malty taste with bread, some caramel and then firmish bitterness with some grass and spice.
