Description
Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.
Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Cask at JDW. Penny Black, Bicester 22-09-07 Poured dark golden, with tight white head. Some light hoppy notes but quite weak aroma, tasted quite sweet heavily leaning towards vanilla with sweet malts. Not bad as, one trick ponies go.

Cask,The Rock of Gibraltar Beer Festival, Enslow, Oxon, 01-09-07 In fact this beer was just one of the regular beers on at the pub rather than being for the beer festival that was being held over the weekend. Poured amber with tangy fruity aroma, this followed through into the taste some residual sweetness hanging around, interesting if not exceptional beer.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Gold/copper colour with lasting thin beige head. Some toffee on aroma. Some herby hop. Decent condition. Quite zingy on the finish. The finish is pretty good. It is ok. Hop is good but aroma is not great.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Gold with an off-white head that faded immediately; initial aroma of hay and apricots, becoming more floral; light and biscuity with some bitterness and some sweetness, but not developing much in the way of a finish.

Bottle. Amber with a slight white head. Aroma of sweet caramel with some tired hops. Flavour was of sweet fruit, almost marmalade like with an ok bitter finish. More evidence that pasteurised bitter is not a good idea.
