About
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Cask at the cardinals hat Lincoln. Deep amber colour with a white head. Aroma and taste are light tart blackberry. Roasted and slight dry. Medium body.

Cask at the St Albans beer festival 2023. A clear pale gold yellow coloured pour with a halo of white head. Aroma is straw. Cereal. Lemon. Grass. Palate is crisp, tanin, semi sweet, grassy. Lemon rind wood. Ok

Cask at The Queen Vic, Aberdeen. It pours amber with an orangey hue and handsome white head. The aroma is bready, digestive biscuits, sappy, floral, tangy citrus and lemon curd. The taste is firm and dry upfront, biscuity malt base, sappy, resin, pithy, zesty, grapefruit rind, touch of rawness and tannin with a dry, bitter linger. Average body and nice carbonation for cask. Hearty malt base with a really nice hit of bitterness and hops. Haven't had a cask ale like this in some time, i.e. a Trad English cask take on an APA. Works well.

Spotty light brown head on a copper coloured body. Red berry, winey & herbal aroma. Medium to full bodied, smooth & soft wit- a cloying back. Malt, berry, Vimto & peppery tastes with lightly hopped fruity finish. Tastes very tasty.

Bottle, online from Beers of Europe. Pours clear ruby amber with a slim beige head. Aroma: caramel, toffee, hazelnut, red fruits, fruit cake. Taste: moderate sweet with lighter bitterness, light boozy, bit vinous, fruity, rich. Medium body we low carbonation.

Bottle online from Beers of Europe. Pours clear copper amber with a cream cap. Aroma: malt, caramel, berry fruits. Taste: light to moderate sweet & moderate bitter, follows the aroma, maybe a smidge of citrus also. Medium body with soft carbonation.

Cask at Shakespeare Tavern, Bristol. Pours dark brown with a ruby tint, cream cap. Strong aroma of blackberries which follow into the taste. Moderate sweet & light to moderate bitter. Berry & bramble, also dark fruits. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. I enjoyed it.

Spotty beige head on a reddish brown still body. Caramel, toffee & plum aroma. Full bodied, smooth & soft with a tingle on the back. Toffee, plum, malt & syrup tastes. Not so sure about this - BBE 2027 - maybe should have been left to mature for a few years. Lots of potential.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours golden amber with a small white head and good lacing. The aroma has tropical fruits and floral hops. In the mouth it starts off sweet, but some underlying casramel and toffee soon makes itself evident. Flavour is mainly floral hops and oranges with traces of biscuits and tropical fruits. Finish is slightly sticky. This is OK, but not really very exciting.
