Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.
In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Cask, 5.2% at GBBF08. Almost clear brown colour. Citric flavour, some sourness, a little rough. There is also some OK dark maltiness, but not enough to cover the sourness.

Bottle, shared by fonefan. It pours a slightly hazy golden-orange body with a small off-white head. Fruity and malty nose, quite citrusy, with a cellarish note. Fruity, citrusy flavor with a roasted touch and a hint of cellar. Medium body. Citrusy, bitter finish with some chalky notes. Pleasant bitterness that lasts. A quite decent, quaffable and quenching golden ale. (080822)

Bottle, shared by fonefan. A clear, golden beer with a decent off-white head. Butterscotch, pale malt, some cookies and a citrusy hoppyness in the aroma. The flavor is much the same, finishing with citrus and some bitterness. Medium lenght. Medium body. Far from a winner, but quite drinkable and with some refreshing qualities. Rating: 5-3-5-3-11-2.7. 080822
Bottle. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, white head. Citrusy and flowery nose with biscuity malts and something reminiscent of honey. Biscuity pale malts in the mouth, medium body fullness and with citrusy hops that don’t add much bittterness. Some peppery notes too. A quite tasteful and quenching beer, obviously in better form than the last time I had it. Still, nothing special. 091120
