Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A slightly hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet and lovely hoppy, while the flavor is lovely hoppy, leading to a dry grassy end.

Cask in a J.D. Wetherspoon, London
Brown color. Some malt aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, not particularly rich; malty with a lot of caramel and delicate roasted malt, more evident at the end. Average.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Copper colour with thin beige head. Yeasty aroma with candied orange peel and some caramel. Quite sweet in mouth with dried fruit peel flavours. Finish is citric, acidic which balances the sweetness. Some hop. Quite like this

Cask handpull, Folkestone Wetherspoons. Cylced here straignt from work and this was a real joy as a first drink. Dark ruby colour with bubbly thin beige head. Some roasted malt on the nose. Refreshing mild. Bit of toastiness. Like well done toast. Really good after cycle ride. Some coffee on finish. Good mild

Cask gravity at Kent BF. Typical golden citrus bitter. Absolutely fine, just not that interesting after drinking half a dozen similar beers

Cask (gravity dispense), White Cliffs Beer Festival, February 2005 Stunning beer of roasted malt and hops. Not really like any porter I have had before or since. The depth of the roasted malts, coffee and chocolate I thought were excellent

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2004] A light brown beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of caramel, while the flavor is sweet roasted with a bitter end, from some weird hop sort.

Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Simply called "Elgood’s Winter Warmer" at the festival, and the ABV was listed as 7.2%, not 7.5%, but I take it that this must be the same beer? No other winter warmer is mentioned at the brewery website. The brewery had kept a cask of this winter seasonal for the festival in May. Brown to mahogany colour, minimal carbonation, no head. Caramel, leather and dark fruits in the aroma. Warming mouthfeel, sweet but not cloying. Spices, dark fruits and treacle in the flavour. Hoppy finish. Not bad.

Cask conditioned at the Alexandra Hotel ("The Alex"), Derby. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Low thick head. Aroma of leather and roasted malts. Very smooth and drinkable with a well balanced roastiness. Coffee elements. A truly enjoyable dark mild!
