Bottle. Hazy orange. Huge head. Aroma of citrus fruits, honey, bananas, hops. Taste is belgian yeast and citrus fruits (mostly grapefruit, also some orange and lemon). Sour, dry, delicious. Strong carbonation. Dry and bitter aftertaste. Great. I preferably drink it rather fresh (~ 3 months old), as it gets older it gets even more dry and develops some kind of horseblanket/urine-aroma. Still delicious though.

10/3/2017. Bottle from beer hawk. Well, it is certainly an interesting beer. It combines strong sour flavours with sweet, with bitter. It is supposedly only 6.2% but is probably more (definitely feels it), have to drink it like a wine. Red wine, sour raspberry. At times felt this was stunning, at others i wanted to like it but just found it confused. Hmmm. 3.6 ------------- 9/8/18. Bottle from Dalwhinnies Östersund. A very hard beer to rate as it is very complicated; or maybe I am just giving it that mysteriousness because it is Orval. It has a gorgeous sweet aroma when in the bottle. Lively fizz. Taste and aroma comes off quite sour, like sour stewed apples and Duchesse de Bourgogne. The feel is relaxing and Belgian. Is it lovely or confused and meh....who knows. 3.6 to 3.5 ------------ 10/7/19. Bottle from the Orval Abbey. It must be fresh therefore. Orval really blew me away this time. I loved it. It felt much less musty and much fresher. More beery. Loved it. 3.5 to 3.9. _------- Bottle from Dalwhinnies in Östersund. It is such a wine of a beer. One you just wanna have more and more of. Fond memories of orval on a June morning. Stay at 3.9 (25/4/20) -------- Bottle from Orval Abbey, aged for 1 year and 6 months. Aroma was absolutely beautiful this time, deep sour nose reminisicent of duchesse de bourgogne and other flanders reds. Some barrel in there too. Appearance was light brown and very fizzy with a lasting foam. Taste was more grass and hop this time. Feel was a mix of steel and water freshness with that classic wine grip ending. Would keep rating at 3.9 overall, it waves between interesting goodness and interesting godlyness. (11/11/20) ----- Bottke from Belgium, thanks Matthias. So I am testing it young to compare it to previous aged ones. The differneve is quite striking.. I find it definitely does imporvr with age as this time it really wasn't that magical at all. 3.9 to 3.6. Sweet with lasting foam. Dark gold. (29/1/21). ---- Similar conditions I believe. 3.6 to 3.5. Not at its best. A funny beer Orval, either miracluous or just odd and not in a great way. (5/12/21) ---- Similar condition. Brewed Sept 20. Nice gentle sweet and sour aroma. Deep gold with lasting foam. Complex flavour aigh dry bitterness. Truly Belgian and a total pleasure. 3.5 to 3.9. (21/2/22) ---- Similar. Bottled Sept 20. This one less magical when rasting as the aroma and taste was less dazzling and there was plenty of sediment but its just a stunning beer in its texture and feeling. 3.9 to 3.8. (5/6/23) ---- Similar. 3.8 to 4. Gorgeous feeling. (Unknown date) ---- Similar, but 5 months out of date. Last time it was off and was so disappointing. This time I got it on the money. Gorgeous duchesse like aroma. 8 to 8.1. (5/2/26)
