A trade with YantarCoast. Huge thanks. Hazy amber. Tall airy head. Average retention. Aroma: leather, horse blanket, fruit, ascorbic acid, brut champagne, floral hop. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Oily textute. Complex dry taste. Fruit & citrus peel. Champagne. Caramel malt. Light refreshing sourness. Solid resiny & floral bitterness. Long hoppy ending. Amazing how craft-like it is! A very distinct one. Great experience.

Glass at a l’ange gardien. Hazy orange beer medium head. Aroma is yeast, nutty. Taste is the same some hops. Not bad but prefer the "normal" one.

Served with a casserole made with Orval cheese and some Orval to pour on top (I couldn't resist the complete Orval experience).

330 ml unlabelled bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Brown color, large white head. Aroma and flavour very much like the ordinary Orval, with "farmhouse" and "spicy" notes, distinct hops. It is quite impressive that so much flavour can be put into a beer of this moderate ABV.

Re-rate: side by side pour of 33cl bottles (1 year old and 20 years old; 07/07/2022, bb 07/7/2027; 22.05.2003, bb 22.05.2008). Old bottle is hazy deep orange with small white head. New bottle is hazy orangey gold with huge white head. Old bottle is very cardboardy with a feint funk on the nose that comes and goes (7/4/5/3/12=3.1). New bottle has mild hops, quite dry (8/5/7/3/15=3.8). Sept 28, 2022 (8/5/7/3/15=3.8): Poured from 330mL bottle @ Kits home from New District Wine Beer Spirits (ABV listed as 6.9%; bottled 18/02/2020, bb 18/02/2025). Slightly hazed copper gold with full off white head. Spicy Belgian yeast with a gentle fruity funk character underlying, very light hopping on the finish. Bumping up the appearance by .1, but otherwise keeping my same score from 2016 for this. Enjoyable. June 10, 2016 (8/4/7/3/15=3.7): Poured from 33cl bottle [bottled in 2011 (label is messed up so can’t tell when exactly); best before 18/07/2016 - aged]. Clear, orangey brown with off-white head. Aroma of orange and peach, light belgian yeast, some spice. Taste of yeast and spice with very mild brett and a subtle dry hop finish. Flavour actually dissipates a bit quickly and is almost a light watery finish. Quite good, but it doesn’t quite land the vault.

Bottle from the Queen Edith, Cambridge. In a terribly inappropriate glass but I can live with that. Golden with a huge, loose, slightly off-white head. Yeast domimates the aroma with an indefinable floral funk. A perfect aroma. Sweet, yet slightly sour, with a cheeky medicinal hop bitterness at the end. There’s something almost sexual about the aftertaste. I crave this.

Dark golden with well lasting frothy white head. Aroma is flowery hops, papaya, passion fruit, citrus, grassy hops. Taste is fruity sour but also bitter. Foamy mouthfeel but atill with a good body. Long hoppy bitter finish. Overall very good. Update: 12 year old version (2004): there is more caramel and forest and the beer is much sweeter.
