Paid $5.00 for a .33 CL bottle at the Beverage King. Bottle date of 07/18/ 2012. Best Before 07/ 2017. With 6.9 % ABV. Trappist glass displays orange/ amber with a huge foamy off-white head that diminishes very slowly. Spider web lacing all the way down. The yeast aroma is fruity with floral hops and a herbal element. Very complex taste. Very hoppy floral notes followed by dried fruit and hints of pine. Some light tartness follow by what I can only describe as Brett. This doesn’t use Brett, does it?? The brett flavor just maybe a result of the unique yeast profile. The texture is very dry with a lingering bitterness. I will purchase this on draft and compare notes. This is a wonderful brew!

Veldig mye skum. Grumset gulbrun farge. God litt syrlig duft av citrus. Frisk syrlig sittende smak.

Great, complex and truly unique beer. Aroma of brett, barnyard, caramel and surprising fruity hops. Taste of barnyard, old hop, brett, caramel biscuit and funky tart. The real wild thing. Allegedly, the brewers lost the special taste one time when they cleaned the brew tanks too well. I'm glad they invited their wild yeast back. Update. Had a bottle of 14 months old as well. Still very lively and funky, with a big foamy head. Still very bretty, but more bitter than the young version. Creamy mouthfeel and finish. Very rich and awesome.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy amber with stable white head. Clear aroma of fruit and flowers with distinct malty touches. Mildly bitter onset, giving way to fruity (apricot?) notes, ending dry. Low carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. A very nice Belgian ale.

From a 2 1/2 year old bottle. Field berries and cherry are introducing the aroma. we can also find a lot of alcohol; ether notes. caramel and earthy notes are also showing up. Aroma is very difficult to evaluate because of that ether presence. Appearance: Clear amber, off white head, good thickness, rocky and from average to long lasting. Head doesn’t stick and no apparent lacing. Taste: Attack has a well felt bitterness that is lasting quite long. Again ether accents are dominant. We can well feel the bretts that are giving this beer a feel of lambic. The sparkling is perfect and supports the bitterness. Herbal hops are well dosed. Mouth feel is exceptional. The flavor palette is however restricted. A well brewed beer that is not necessarily my favorite. Being refractory to lambics, and this beer has some similarities to that style because of the type of yeast used, it does,t rank into my top favorites. But for some other people it might be great.

Bottle at DHVL. 2009 vintage. Clear light copper liquid with medium to big off-white head. Aroma of light barnyard, bread, mint, light grain, light fruity funk and lemon peel. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of light barnyard and bread. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Really very similar to Orval, but lighter. The name is very fitting.

Bottle from Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen - Amber pour with a persistent white head. Lovely citrus aroma and taste, orange/lemon peel, cinnamon, soft yeast, sweet malt and a slight spicyness, Immense mouthfeel, very complex on the palate. Love it.

a) Bottled on 2nd May 2013 --> 6 weeks old. I like Orval fresh - here the sharp hops fit best with the fresh fruity citrus-aroma. The hop-aroma is intense, overwhelming. And the light sourness also fits great in! The aftertaste is long, hoppy, great!

b) Older rating from 18.

Head: light beige, giant, fluffy, avg. retention. Colour: copper, hazy or very cloudy (depends on how you pour).

Aroma: flowers, tropical fruit, spice, leather/stale. Taste: dry with a slight sourness, spicy/peppery, quite some hop bitterness (quite serious for a belgian).

A unique belgian and trappist beer: very aromatic, dry and a good dose of bitterness. rich and complex, but drinkable at the same time. Was a pleasure to discover.
