Aroma has ripe banana and some earthy notes. Sourish flavour has some banana, flower and peppery spices. Foams a lot in mouth. Pretty unusual stuff, very complex and good.

Bottle at DHL. Hazy golden color, thick white head. Typical Orval aroma of sourdough and rye bread dough and yeast. Taste has orange peel, coriander, white pepper, raw bread dough. Soft sourness. Nice stuff.

330ml Bottle - Amber/orange with a foamy head. Marmalade,lemon and apples and a hint of spice in the aroma. Hoppy and dry taste with some tart notes and hints of caramel,apple,jam and marmalade. Interesting and like a cross between a pale ale and a lambic. I can see why this beer is appealing to so many beer geeks as it seems to be a rather complex brew.

Clear orange vast rocky white head. Fresh hoppy smell. Nice bitter taste. Ok body, good carbo for 6.2% ABV.

Hazy dark golden with a solid white head - aroma is of malts and spicy belgian yeast - taste is oslo the same with malts, yeast and perhaps hints of citrus - good, but was expecting a little more

The second time I’ve had this and it lived up to the great memory. A kind of initial floral perfume that’s taken over by subtle bitterness. Drank in a 33 cl bottle in Taiwan.

Pours an opaque, dark tan, full of sediment and tiny bubbles and monk-like secrecy. The head is a sight to behold, huge and hearty and nigh-impenetrable. Smells like apples and red wine and oak barrels and earth. Nice opening act, Orval. The taste smacks you with yeasty tartness that mimics red wine, only to fade into the soothing warmth of a dunkelweizen. Finishes like a slice of fruitcake. Bubbly yet smooth, this beer lives up to its kudos. Delicious. (2/21/09)

33cl bottle. Pours an autumnal orangey-brown with steady bubbles and a very large head. The nose is distinctly hoppy like an IPA - pine and grapefruit pith. The taste is of more zingy pine and grapefruit which is rounded off with a yoghurt zing at the end. The palate has medium structure, a creamy texture and a zingy finish. Overall, this is a great example of hops and yeast combining, though it is definitely not a sessoin beer.
