Backlog. From tap at Perseverance Tavern, Cape Town, with HO and QL 14.04.12. "Jack Black. Pale golden, head dissapeared immediately. Quite bitter, but alienated from any taste of malt or hops. Waterish mouthfeel. Bitter aftertaste with some sweetness. Could have been any eurolager, or even American maize liquid. (Unfortunately the pub is out of Mitchell’s.)"

Crisp light amber coloured body with a copper glow and a rather thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of toast, earth, metal, copper and a bit of light fruits. Medium-bodied; Strong toasty flavour with some grain and alcohol noticeable, but more of a subdued cereal and grainy flavour than most anything else. Aftertaste shows the toast and malt but not much of the hops or light complexity - just blandish. Overall, a decent beer with some good profiles but nothing extraordinary. I sampled this 440 mL bottle purchased from Tops at Green Point (Cape Quarter) in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa earlier today on 14-August-2015 for 32,10 ZAR sampled in my hotel room just a few blocks away in Central Cape Town on 14-August-2015 just a few hours later.

Crisp copper and light amber coloured body with a rich, thick, fast-dying off-white head, about six centimetres tall. Aroma of light pine, hops, earth and caramel - not much else around. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty and herbal qualities with some pungent earth and sugars and a rather unrefined flavour of the hops and malt. Aftertaste shows more of a malt and earth flavour with some nuts than anything else - some light sweetness, a ton of pungent bitter malt notes and not much hops at all. Overall, a fairly poor IPA and it shows - but this is rather typical for a ZA IPA, sadly. That said, I’ll keep drinking these and trying other options as the different craft beers in ZA aren’t very large. I sampled this 440 mL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 12-July-2015 for US$3,29 sampled at home in Washington on 07-August-2015 just two days from returning back to the great country that is our [humanity’s] motherland of South Africa, specifically Cape Town.

440ml bottle many thanks to Stefan for sharing. Dense and bubbly off-white head. Lacing rings down the glass. Near-clear amber coloured body. Moderate smell of caramel and apricot. Flavoured with mid-sweet caramel, earth, and dried fruity hops. Bittersweet ending. Medium bodied. Fair enough (session in Tromsø 03.06.2015).

Bottle shared with JMD at HNB. Foamy and uneven off-white head. Fine lacing. Aroma of noble pilsner hops and slightly caramelized malt. Malt in aftertaste. A lovely and well-balanced pilsner, with pronounced taste of malt, balanced with hops and bitterness. High quaffability!
