Description
Libertine Brewing Company was founded in 2012 on the premise of bringing the best beer selection to the Central Coast, while brewing unique beers and products to compliment. With a strong emphasis on tradition while still being authentic to our region, we have grown from a small brewpub on the water in Morro Bay, to a 9000 square foot production and tasting facility on the edge of downtown San Luis Obispo. All of our Wild Ales are brewed and transferred into an open-top coolship overnight, which allows the local wild yeasts of our area time to naturally fall in and start the fermentation process, giving our beers a true Central Coast Terroir. Along with Wild Ales, we also make cold-brewed coffee that is aged in bourbon and wine barrels and spiced with local ingredients foraged from the surrounding hills.

750 capped and corked from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very hazy, dirty gold with a significant foamy off-white head. Aroma is funky, sort of bretty, but coming across a bit like a spicy soda. Full bodied, thanks to heavy carbonation. Flavor starts sort of bretty, moves on to a floral/lacto/pedio type of thing. Lots of flavor. It’s well towards dry. It’s bitter/funky. Hop? Probably, but not the harsh, bitter kind of thing. Fruit? No. Floral? Probably. A very different drink; yet it’s extremely satisfyingly tasty. Wowser? Almost.

Draft at lupulo tap house Santa Cruz. Aroma is burnt toffee cake, treacle, apple, dusty, semi sweet, lactose sugars, condensed milk. Dark mahogany brown/ black coloured pour with a thin light ran head. Flavour is composed of tangy tart apple cake, toffee, charred wood, bitter roast. Palate is slightly thin, slightly sour, tangy, moderate carbonation. Little green apple. Interesting beer. Not to my taste.

Capped and corked 750 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy gold with a foamy/fizzy white head. Aroma of brett, maybe lacto, and maybe citrus. Has to be something like that. Full bodied from lots of carbonation. It’s peppery/spicy, earthy, bretty, funky, maybe citrus. Flavors mass to produce a strong effect. The sour is fairly strong, but it’s very "smooth". Really quite a delicious thing. I am impressed.

Bottle shared by Matt - thanks for the Gose tick! Pours clear coca-cola, very small off-white head, dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is oaky, light vanilla, roasted malts, cocoa powder, acetone. Flavor is medium tart, quite salty actually, coming through most strongly on the finish. Light body, watery mouthfeel that just kind of gives up on the whole beer. Low carbonation. Well, it wasnt a total loss.

Capped 750 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours black with a fizzy/foamy tan head. Aroma of orange/sour/mild Brett. Med + body. Flavor is tart/chocolate/zest/Brett and maybe some other flavors. It definitely has some Xmas spice notes. I think it’s towards dry, and a bit astringent. Bitter or zest or both? Interesting and tasty. Mildly Brett.

Capped 750 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy light gold with a white fizzy head. Tart lemonish aroma. Med body or so. Flavor is tartly lemon with some salt. First blush is Berliner Weiss, but when the salt arrives it’s not that. Really salty IMO. Quite drinkable.

Keg at Juliter. Pours clear dark brown with a creamy tan head. Funky aroma, some dark fruits, burnt wood, prunes. Light sweet flavor with mellow acetic bite, light roast, dried dark fruits, berries, subtle lemony tang. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Tart finish, more soft roast, light lemon, berries. Not bad overall.
