Near opaque, dark brown with a thick off white head. Smells malty with a little chocolate. Flavour follows suit. Toasty malt, a bit of sweet milk chocolate, vanilla. Big malty finish with a little hop. Medium body. Very drinkable.

Bottled. Deep golden colour with a small white foamy head. Aroma is citrus, some sweet malts, grass and mild spruce tips. Flavour is kind of resiny with some pine, grass, citrus and some nutty and mild toasted bready tones.

Half-pint in the BOD, Newport Shropshire on 22nd February 2024. Exceedingly cold pour, black bodied with a tanned foam top. Bitter dry malty taste, too cold to have any aroma. Smooth and slick, decent.

Keg, half-pint in the BOD, Newport Shropshire on 22nd February 2024, came very cold, so no aroma, tasted like a typical Helles, light on the hops and light on the malts. Clean and clear golden body, white crust on top. Refreshing and slightly dry in the finish.

Bottle thanks to my step dad. Pours clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate and vanilla, as expected. Sweet taste. Sweet finish.

500ml bottle. Pours a deep brown with a ruby tint, tan head. Aroma is plum but very bubblegummy, seems like it'll be sweet as hell. Taste is very plummy but it's a sweet, artificial like bubblegum kind of plum, there's some dark malts there but this is all about the plum, finishing with an oddly sharp bitter tang. Light-medium bodied. Very nice but I'm sure this would be so much better conditioned on plums rather than having plum flavouring added to it.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol October 2023. Dark, ruby red, in colour, with a slight, beige, head. Some vibrant cherry upfront, followed by a solid maltiness, more subdued dark berries, and a finish which avoided being overly sweet. Good.

Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours a deep copper with a small foamy off-white head and god lacing. Not much of an aroma – just some nuts and malts. In the mouth sweet malts and marmalade are immediately apparent. It as a rich and creamy texture and gets increasingly bitter as time progresses. Later on there are hints of ginger and caramel too. Finish is dry and quite bitter. This is a decent ESB, though it lacks a certain something.
