Description
The first references to a brewery in the Weltenburg Monastery are to be found in the Weltenburg Nekrologium, in which it states that the master brewer died. Another scientifically recognized source is a recorded entry in the “Libellus Traditionum”, which is over 900 years old, and which dates from shortly before or after 1050.
In the barely millennium to the present day, monastic beer production in Weltenburg was only interrupted by the secularization from 1803 to 1846. In 1846 the brewery became monastery property again, and it has remained there to this day. The Weltenburg monastery brewery can therefore rightly be called the oldest monastery brewery in the world.

Bottle at home Tuesday 21st May 2024 cooking Tex Mex Cure Ribs with two different Coleslaws, picked up from REWE, Regen, Not decided what music to listen to yet. We're sat in the porch after a busy afternoon of gardening. Pours clear gold, little bubbles, large white head, dry, crispy and fruity Pils. Nice.

50cl bottle (as my beer #9100 @ Brewver, 7,3%) from Abbaye Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux, France. Head is big, tanned, good retention. Colour is dark brown with coppery hue against the light. Aroma is rich dark malts, roasted tones, dark fruits, caramel, dark bread. Taste is full malty base, dark bread, dried fruits, caramel, plums, coffee, nice balanced harmonic long lasting bitterness, medium carbonation, delicious.

0,5 bottle. Much nicer label than the attached picture, classic bottle, nice brown, light amber beer. The foam is big, hard, sometimes coming together, but it also sticks to the edge of the glass. Nice beer. Aroma: you can feel more caramel malt, and the aroma typical of Viennese half-browns, hops in the background, or rather there is no aroma at all, more like hard - but fine - maltiness. Body is weaker, average, carbonation is also weaker, but it suits it well. Very good, the only thing that distinguishes it from the best Czech half-browns is the lack of hops. Which is what it has, because if you rinse your whole mouth with it, you can feel the slight citrusy, tart, delicate taste. It is very drinkable, a great product! A real toffee-caramel effect, hats off!!! It had a beautiful thick foam when poured.

A csatolt képnél jóval szebb címke, klasszikus üveg, barna szép, világos borostyán sör.

Bottle picked up from a local Getrankemarkt and consumed at home Monday 6th May 2024 listening to ByteFM and cooking a Braised, Sausages and Lentils Greek meal. A very slight smidgen of hops on the nose and a touch of malt. A little sweetish and then the unmistakable taint of a non alcoholic beer, it's difficult to describe succinctly what this is, you just know it. Nice mouthfeel, softly and the sweetness shows again. It's ok but for me this sector of the beer world (non alcoholic beer) has still yet to be cracked.

Bottle picked up as part of a six pack from Edeka, Spiegelau and consumed at home Wednesday 24th April 2024 listening to ByteFM and cooking a Spicy Mushroom Stir-fry. Pours copper in colour with a large white/off white head and great clarity. Malty backbone, hoppiness and a little bitterness at the end, the hoppiness is very reminiscent of the trad' UK style, so hedgerow hops that work well in a Bitter or ESB, but of course here they're in a 6.5% Maibock beer here. There is a pleasant sweetness with a little caramel, nice mouthfeel, really more'ish', really pleased that I got a six-pack now.
