Description
The first references to a brewery in the Weltenburg Monastery are to be found in the Weltenburg Nekrologium, in which it states that the master brewer died. Another scientifically recognized source is a recorded entry in the “Libellus Traditionum”, which is over 900 years old, and which dates from shortly before or after 1050.

In the barely millennium to the present day, monastic beer production in Weltenburg was only interrupted by the secularization from 1803 to 1846. In 1846 the brewery became monastery property again, and it has remained there to this day. The Weltenburg monastery brewery can therefore rightly be called the oldest monastery brewery in the world.

From Heinrich 3000, as usual, it is a good bavarian pils, craft comes, tradition stays intact, mineral, aromatic, hoppy, herbal, 30.11.18, at the Holiday Inn, Berg am Laim.

A really good helles beer. Small head, golden color, typical Helles aroma and taste. Easy to drink, refreshing,

500ml bottle from Noz. Pours hazed gold with a perfect silky white head. Aroma of creamy weizen yeast rather than overly bananery. Continues to taste, balanced weiss profile, great harmony of flavours, quite a smooth mouthfeel, lovely.

I was expecting something better. The taste is really sour, some wheat, banana, watery but it is not so pleasant at the tongue, 26.10.16, at our rented flat, Santa Jusra area, Sevilla, buying it at the corte inglés.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, nutty brown with a creamy and lacing, beige head. Odd aroma where the lemonade cannot really overpower the dark malts - not so pleasant. Light body, very, very sweet, flavors are mostly malt bonbons - as the lemonade notes are struggling. I honestly believe I'd prefer a "straight" Radler. 200126

This bottle is coming from the corte inglés, Nervion, Sevilla. Enjoying it on Thursday at my rented loft, at Santa Clara. Y classical winter beer with some metalic note, rather dry, malty with some notes of toffee, a bit spicy, hop, 04.12.21

"Weltenburger Kloster Hell", Flasche von Logo, Niederweimar, 25.12.2025. - Blaß hellmalzig mit zarter Biskuitsüße, einem Hauch von fruchtiger Säure und milder, leicht Rhabarber-artiger zitrusfruchtiger Hopfung. Schlank, leicht trocken. Im Abgang sehr mild. - Schlankes, angenehm gehopftes Helles, auf Dauer freilich ein wenig dünn.

Multiple bottles over the years. Clear dark ruby body with a beige head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of raisin, mashed strawberry, liquorice, Marmite and toffee. Flavour of burnt sugar, Calpol and boiled blackcurrant sweets. Medium to full body with a slick and slightly chewy mouthfeel. Light fizz. Sweet and delicious. One of the best doppelbocks I’ve tried.
