Description
The first references to a brewery in the Weltenburg Monastery are to be found in the Weltenburg Nekrologium, in which it states that the master brewer died. Another scientifically recognized source is a recorded entry in the “Libellus Traditionum”, which is over 900 years old, and which dates from shortly before or after 1050.
In the barely millennium to the present day, monastic beer production in Weltenburg was only interrupted by the secularization from 1803 to 1846. In 1846 the brewery became monastery property again, and it has remained there to this day. The Weltenburg monastery brewery can therefore rightly be called the oldest monastery brewery in the world.

Bottle from REWE. Pale golden, fine carbonation, white lacing head. Light tinny citric notes, light grain, medium light body with a bit chewiness, Alll in all relatively neutral, which also means a minimum of worty, papery notes, light grainy sweetnes, grassy, citric finish, quite decent.

0.5 l bottle from local 'Trink & Spare', best before November 2025. Clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of grains, some straw and traces of lemon peel. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly grassy-spicy and a bit fruity-floral taste of grains, straw and some lemon peel, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Almost medium-bodied, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Decent Helles.

Bottle. Had this one on a recent trip to Chicago. Wasn’t a great beer but was good. Started off with a nice hop-malt balance but finished just a tad too bitter. For some reason it said "malt liqour" on the label. Anyway, recommended to try at least once.

Bottle. Wonderful brown color with a light tan head. Aroma was fruit cake, with hints of herbs, nuts and toast. Flavor was extremely complex with dried fruit and touches of licorice, caramel and a malty, slightly sweet aftertaste. Really great beer.
