Elysian Brewing Company operates three locations of which Elysian Capitol Hill is the main brewery and a full production brewery – Elysian Airport Way, in the Georgetown neighborhood (since 2011). Known both for classic styles and for flexibility and innovation, Elysian has brewed over 500 different recipes since opening in 1996. While Elysian’s brewers use a variety of unusual ingredients, they are seasonally notorious for their pumpkin beers. In 2015 Elysian joined AB InBevs' family of craft brands.

A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet matly with notes of roasted malt and light notes of coffee. The flavor is sweet malty and very roasted combined with notes of coffee, leading to a dry roasted, bitter, and burnt end.

(Bottle 65 cl) Completely black and opaque with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. Medium body with plenty of hard roasted malt and a vague, underlying sweetness. Vanilla in the flavour also. A lightly burned edge, but no major bitterness. Courtesy of acertain. 061006

Bottle. Small white lasting head. Golden orange colour, slightly hazy. Slightly citrusy aroma, reminded me of tangerines. Balanced flavour, not heavily hoppy like many IPAs. Almost like a Cape ale. Crisp finish, again like a Cape ale. Good with braai, sushi or a session after a long day.

tap at the brewpub - Pours amber with a malt and spice aroma. The flavor is malt, pumpkin, and spices, as one might expect. The pumpkin and spice flavors are nicely balanced and quite tastey, as long as you don’t mind some pretty assertive spices, and I don’t. Don’t expect much hops here. Enjoyable.

tap at the brewpub - Pours cloudy orangish with a moderate head. There’s a sweet smelling aroma with some yeast and citrus. The flavor is sweet with mild citrus and spice notes. This is a smooth, light, and easy drinking for the style. It could use more depth, but it’s good. Rerate from the bottle: 7/3/7/3/13 Averaging the 3.6 and 3.3 to a 3.5.

tap at the brewpub - Pours dark brown to black with a moderate tan head. The aroma is of malt and coffee. The flavor includes the dark roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of chocolate. A medium body and rather smooth mouthfeel make it easy to drink. It’s not great, but like most of the other Elysian beers I tried, it’s a good example of the style.

tap at the brewpub - Pours coppery with a thin head. Malt and hops are equally represented in a fairly light aroma. The flavor is good and hoppy with a medium body, light carbonation, and a lingering bitter finish. It’s a pretty good ESB, though nothing really special.
