Pours clear dark amber into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dusty cocoa and sweet caramel aromas. Full sweet caramel upfront turning to slightly smoked chocolate in the dry, lasting macadamia finish.

Bottle at Bodega in La Crosse. Pours brownish-black with a medium foamy khaki head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing. Roasted coffee aroma with hops behind it. Medium body with a roasty coffee character and flavors of grainy malt and hops. The finish is black coffee with a lingering roasty flavor left over. Above average overall.

Bottle. An oily pour leaves a pitch black body under a dense, diminishing, tan head. Some soy, licorice notes, roasted malts, oxidation hints, alcohol and dates on the notes. Definitely imperial!. The flavor is intense and sort of balanced, roasted malts and coffee, licorice, soy sauce, oxidation, alcohol, dates, some toffee and dark chocolate. The hops are left in the back, but there’s sure hops in it. Full-bodied, warming and oily on the palate. Warming, coffee-ish, lightly chocolatey finish. Someone mentioned bourbon when we drank this one, I can see what he means, even though that’s not what springs to my mind. In the very end there’s some chocolate chips cookies, oat-like and tasteful. A beer that needs some time to down, but you’ll have a good time sinking it. 101005

Refrigerated bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours a light bright hazy orange with medium size white head. Aroma is orange, some lacing, and high carbonation. Taste is strong tangy orange, some wheat, and a little coriander.

12oz bottle pours brilliant clear deep copper with weak loose tan head. The meek aroma is faintly spicy, earthy and yeasty. The taste begins with vague spices and then picking up winter like spices and then growing richer and richer with varied maltiness. I get a mix of malts, caramel malts, mild graininess and a sense of biscuit to earthiness. It ends with sweet malts and a touch of spices.

"lemonade flavor" pretty much describes this beer. I had this straight from the bottle. Aroma is beer, with notes of lemonade. Flavor is something else - a concoction of lemonade and beer with notes of wheat. Why would you want lemonade with your beer??? I don’t understand what Leinenkugel was going for with this one. A big mystery....???
