Served on draft under the Paradise Island label at Cheeseburger in Paradise, Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clearish copper color with a thin head. The aroma is caramel with floral, leafy hops. The taste is caramel with herbal, almost metallic notes. Medium bodied. Fairly one dimensional but much better than I expected as a chain restaurant house beer. 5/12/10.

World Cup tasting at Lazy Boy Saloon Beer #1 Pours hazy fizzy yellow. Smells of lemon right off. taste is of heavy citrus fruit and is plenty lively. Since I was still sligtly hungover I found this to be a nice start.

Bottle: Drank out of the bottle nice design, but I’m sure its holding back the pale appearance. Aroma is honey and wheat. Taste is malt, sweet, with a bitter butter finish.

Some joint in Crown Heights six-pack ($4): Before I drank this beer, my friend who bought it informed me that it was horrible. Undaunted by this warning, I dived right in, grabbing a bottle and taking a whiff of the lemon from concentrate aroma. Incorrect. I sipped it generously once and was horrified to experience the soapy, artificial lemon, and macro-style wheat beer tastes maximizing the worst aspects of each. Indeed, this beer is barely drinkable. Everyone at the party who tried it agreed that it was an abortion of a beer. I don’t think I have ever had a beer as soapy and wrong-tasting as this. I’d rather drink Bud.

This is one of my guilty pleasures. It basically smells and tastes like lemonade. Not alcoholic "Mike’s hard lemonade" which is basically just a hangover in a bottle. This is just lemonade. Rated 8/25/08 Original rating 3.9

Low end fruit beer. Tastes almost like a Mike’s Hard Lemonade with a little more body. Reddish pour. Nose is a little pungent spruce and citrus. Rated 8/1/08

I don’t think Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy is a particularly bad beer, it’s just average. It’s the type of beer that helps you enjoy the warm weather, it’s exceptionally marketed for the warm weather (hence it’s limited release), it would probably taste horrible if you’re curled up near a heater escaping colder weather. The lemonade in this old man concoction stands out more than anything, and the label states it’s made with Weiss beer, but it’s so subtle and finishes more like a lager. Not really the type of beer I would think anyone would want to pound down, but the perfect beer when you’re hanging out in your place with the windows open, eating pizza, and watching baseball.

bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours black with a small tan head and smells of dark roast malt and chocolate. The big, roast flavor includes notes of chocolate and licorice. Full bodied and enjoyable, it’s by far the best beer I’ve had from this brewer.

12 oz bottle into snifter. Aroma is bland--a little Sweet Tarts candy, faint malt. Pours brownish amber with a medium dissipating head that leaves nice lacework. Cinnamon comes out in the flavor; (picture Austin Powers) it’s a bit nutty. Sweet with little hop presence. Somewhat salty aftertaste. A little tart mid-sip. High carbonation. Overall, better than expected, but not terribly interesting. Not as boring as I was expecting, though. Just kind of middle of the road.

bottle thanks to JCapriotti pours thick black with a medium tan head. Aroma is light soy sauce, roasted malt, some chocolate. Flavor is big roasted malt, sweet cream, peanuts, and a little soy sauce in the finish. It’s not overpowering(soy sauce.) This is a nice beer, very solid RIS for a macro.
