Description
In May 1867, the Leinenkugel family brewery was founded in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin by Jacob Leinenkugel. He was a family man driven by an iron work ethic, and he knew that his German family heritage would play an integral part of his brewery’s success. Today, the sixth generation of Leinenkugels continues to brew some of the same family-inspired recipes that Jacob poured his heart and soul into. Over the years, our family has grown and so has our brewery, but our history and heritage remain at the forefront.

Aroma, I swear, is of anise. Maybe with a bit of orange. Hazy orange tinged gold color with a white head that ringed with tatters of lace. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Orange citrus flavor, orange oil, but I still think there’s some anise. I don’t know what happened to the hops, but the bitter seems to come from orange oil. A pretty dry finish, and that anise note persists. If that’s what it is. Pretty amazing. New to me.

Quite possibly the worst beer I’ve ever had. This smells like a fruit salad, an over ripe fruit salad. Flavor is more like a wine cooler than beer, all sugar, no distinguishable malt or hops. Flavor is sweet like boxed wine. I nearly spit this beer back into the bottle... it’s that bad.

12 oz. bottle, July 2. Pours a color that’s a lot like lemonade, but for the 1/2" head of dissolving foam. Lemony smell on top of a distinct wheat beer note. It does at least have some beer character, but is still more lemon than beer. Okay for the summer though. May stand up to any German Radler.

bottle - Pours clear and fizzy yellow with a medium sized head. It has a light malt aroma and a typical for the style light malt flavor with a little bit of hops balance that makes it better than a Bud or similar. It’s bubbly, thin, and overall... meh.

From tap. Poured pale yellow slight hazy and no head, someone had thrown a piece of lemon in it. I cannot get my head around why, I tried to pull it out straight away but the beer tasted of lemon afterwards anyway. No real aroma, slight sweet and corn. Honey? Not in my flavour, almost no flavour but the lemon and a bit of wheat notes, rather watery. Not bad as such, but no way good either.

Very much a standard lager, I had this straight from the can. Bland but good very cold on a warm day.

Interesting name. Attractive bready yeasty aroma. First taste is roasty and slightly chocolaty. Dark brownish red color. Good carbonation, a pleasure. Alcohol is ever present after the first taste bud impact. Each successive sip is covered with fine tingly carbonation and a welcomed palate appeal. Seems to have more alky than what is listed. Friendly and unassuming except for than alky alert at the end of each sip. Finish is short and generally acceptable. The slight bitter impact departs quite quickly.

Bottle. Pours a very cloudy off yellow color with a medium white frothy head. The aroma is a pungent orange with hints of citrus and wheat. Nice lacing that stays. The taste is a very strong orange/citrus taste with a crisp finish.

Draft at Old Boise Brewfest: Dark gold with a little haze and a large white head. Nose is abundant with fruity and citrus tones, just a little wheat tone in the background. Tastes sweet with orange, like orange extract was added. Loses a point or two there. Light body and small wheat character. Overall this is pretty good.
