Old rating. Pours an oil black with a nice big tan head. Big chocolate aromas with touches of currants, prune and slight coffee on the nose. Tastes of milk chocolate, toasted cacao nibs, malt, dark fruit and slight coffee notes are present. Sweet on the palate. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. Starts out sweet then finishes up dry.

Pint at the Tempest Coleby. Always my go to pint when I was younger. But returning to it I was a touch disappointed. An ok bitter.

Served straight from the cask at the excellent Star Inn, Bath. Deep amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of biscuit malts, caramel, hint of nut. Light sweetness and bitterness. Texture a little thin. Low level of carbonation. Decent enough beer.

Appearance is opaque, brown tinges at the base. A one finger beige foamy head. Aroma- caramel, sweetness, milky, chocolate, cocoa. Taste- dry roast, chocolatey, milky, some sweetness with hints of caramel, but it actually becomes bitter at the end. A bit fuller in the mouth than expected, given the low abv. Perfectly drinkable and pleasant.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber, clear, with a lovely white head from the natural carbonation. Light cereal and egg aroma. The taste is caramel bittersweet with eggy sour and slight spice notes. Medium long bitter-sour finish. Mouthfeel too weak for my liking. Enjoyable but nothing special really.

Popular strong lager, peach blonde coloured and on sale in 50 cl cans in many supermarkets also in the Low Countries; metallic, sweetish but fortunately not too cloying, one-dimensional with strong alcohol presence as usual in this style. I have to admit I had many examples that were much worse, though.
