Description
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.

Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

0.75 l bottle from 'AleHub', cellared for almost one-and-a-half years, best before 2032. Almost clear, orangeish golden, no head. Sweetish, sourish, rather vinous-fruity fruity aroma of lemon, vinegar, red wine and hints of glue. Gently sweet, fairly sour, rather vinous-fruity and minimally funky taste of lemon, red wine, vinegar, some honey and traces of glue, followed by a medium long, fairly tart finish. Medium body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Fairly sour but not as aggressive as other coolship beers from Freigeist, not too heavy on the vinegar or the glue, still quite demanding. I like it, but wouldn't want to drink it regularly.

Sample (thanks fonefan!). Pitch black colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted, some toasted and mild smoked tones with some nutty tones to it. Flavour is nutty, some roasted malts with quite strong Port Wine sweetness as well as some slight raisins and plum tones as well. Smooth.

You ooh, that's a smooth sweet smoke rather than the oppressive smoke I'm used to. Well done.

it's tastes a little bit like feet. it's unfiltered and chock full of flavor. it would be an aquire taste. not for those bud light drinkers.
