Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2016, day 1 - London. Pours clear yellow with a foamy, white head. Nice one, with notes of light ginger, hay, pale bread. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish. Good-drinking gold.

10/10/2020. Bottle at the Boojum&Snark Craft Beer Festival, Sandown. Simply named Solstice. Pours dark amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, brown sugar, fruit cake. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Moderate body, bit watery, average carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a reddish brown with a white whisper head. Aroma is malty light bitter to the nose. Taste is malty, dusty, light hops, full flavor.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford – as Downton Honey Blonde Pours a pale yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Honey and malts together in the nose. Has a sharp tangy taste in the mouth. Malts and honey to the fore, but also grains and a hint of citrus. Honey and lemon in the finish. Not at all bad.

Cask at the Seven Stars, Stourbridge. Pours very dark brown with a small head. Aroma is dark fruits and dry roast. Taste has dark fruit and dry roast malt.

I was quite intrigued to spot a NEIPA listed on the beer list of Downton's stall at the Winchester Christmas Market. However it's not really a NEIPA. From a bottle. Piney aroma. Copper gold - no haze whatsoever. Thin bubbly white head. I drank it and announced, Bitter! The guy on the stall said, Oh, if you like sweeter beers.. So I explained that I was not expecting a NEIPA to be so bitter. He didn't really get it. Light. Thin. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. For me a typically quinine IPA from a trad British brewery.

Bottle sample at Winchester Christmas Market. Now 10.0% ABV. Roasty malty aroma. Dark and oily looking. Thin beige head. Heavy bitter. Dark coffee and liqourice. Medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. Packs way more puinch than I was expecting, admittedly that was me just writing the brewry off as twiggy bitter pushers.

Sample from bottle at Winchester Christmas Market. Sweet floral aroma. Medium gold. Thin bubbly white head. Light bitter with a sweet streak and a hint of sourness. Light. Thin. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. Nice enough without being overly interesting.

Cask at Slaters, Stafford Pours a very dark red brown with a small beige head and good lacing and low carbonation. A vague chocolate aroma leads to the mouth which is sweet asnd creamy. Choclate and mint are both there, combining like After Eight mints. Finish is minty but also slightly osur and peppery. Nice enough, but a bit of a gimmick.
