Description
Brewing started behind the Royal Clarence Hotel, and in those days trading as the Royal Clarence Hotel Brewery, in Burnhan-on-Sea in August 1982. A 5 barrel brew plant was used primarily to supply the hotel only. The brewery was taken over in May 1984 and the beers became more available in the free trade. Due to problems with the water supply, the brewery was using that much that hotel guests could not wash, the brewery moved in January 1993 to an old cider mill in West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare. Capacity was tripled during the move and in 2000 work started on upgrading the plant to a 30 barrel brew length. The brewery closed in early 2017 but relaunched shortly afterwards as Pitchfolk Brewery.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 8 April 2011. 4.6% abv) Golden amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with peaches, flowers and ripe pears. Fruity taste with notes of citrus, peaches, pears and a floral bitterness in the finish. Rather light body, quite sweet. Enjoyable and refreshing.

A deep dark brown porter with reddish hues and a thin light moka head. Sweet vanilla chocolate and solvents in aroma. In mouth, a nice classy porter with bitter chocolate, but some solvents notes in finale. Cask at Get Real NY, March 19th 2011.

Cask handpull at Penderel’s Oak, JDW, Holborn. Gold lasting creamy head. Faint touch of strawberry on aroma. Yes, it has strawberries in flavour. Interesting battle of sweet fruit and bitter beer goiong on. Even a touch whiskyish. It’s not horrible, but I wouldn’t say it works brilliantly either. It’s interesting.

(Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki, 2011-03-21) The beer poured copper coloured and clear. Its head was long lasting and white. Aroma was quite sweet and fruity. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were hops, grain, malts, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity and bitter. Initlally this appeared as a really good pale ale but unfortunately it turned quite quickly into weak and watery bitter.
