2007 vintage, bottle # Q19309. My 750th rating: Tawny brown with no head; rich, heady, aroma, with tropical fruits, honey and vanilla; similar flavours but with a complex nutty, malty base underneath; and warming alcoholic tones; sticky sweet finish, but also with a surprisingly intense bitterness; leaving a pleasant warming feeling.

2007 bottle Q11560 from LCBO. A dark reddish brown ale with almost no head, off white, light carbonation. Aroma is pungent, caramel, molasses, with light licorice and cognac. In mouth, a sweet burned caramel with light lactic points, woody, chocolate and licorice. Warming alcohol warms you up. Very rich and heavy. A classic BW. Room temperature in chalice.

Purchased today at Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove; "Best by 02/28/05." Okay, Sam’s definitely has a problem keeping their shelves updated. But it was in the bargain tent at a dollar off, and I just couldn’t resist.Pours a big load of tannish-brown foam into a pint glass. Very cloudy, coppery beer beneath it. Smell shows a lot of malt that has aged out and is a bit medicinal, but that’s to be expected. And yet, there’s still some fine English hop bitterness to be found here. A bit of iodide, true, but also some prune and raisin. I knew this might have problems going in, but it’s still pretty drinkable.

Combination of a cask and a bottled review. A red-amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, as well as some fruits and berries. The flavor is sweet maty with notes of caramel (stronger on cask than bottle), combined with citrusy hoppy notes and notes of bisquits, leading to a lightly bitter finish. Bottled I’d give it 6 in flavor and 13 overall.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby almost black color with a longlasting off-white head. Dry roasted fruity aroma with some hints of chocolate and darkfruit. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with some hints of the port. Has a dry roasted malty finish with some fruity hints from the port.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, Ashford. Slightly fruity stout. Some choc on aroma, not enormously dry in mouth. Good fruits and then some bitterness on end. Finish is very good.

This ale poured a murky brown colour similar to sewage. The head was lacking and what there was, was soapy bubbles. To the nose there was scents of cider, ripe fruit, alcohol, cherries and brown sugar. First taste was smooth and warming. With flavours of over-ripe fruit, alcohol, wine and brown sugar. Finnish is warming and slightly bitter with apple sauce flavours lingering.

2005 vintage - P34896 - aged 3 years. Pours deep, clear garnet into a snifter. Off-white head quickly recedes to pancake surface and hug rim. Pit fruit, raisin and cinnamon aromas. Thick butterscotch upfront with and a lasting rum-raisin alcohol burn.
